LAS VEGAS Newt Gingrich is wooing NASCAR voters. As he charts a possible course to the Republican nomination, aides say Gingrich will paint frontrunner Mitt Romney as the candidate of the PGA golf tour while the former House speaker pursues the blue collar mantle of Dale Earnhardt.
Its a strategy that exploits the class warfare Gingrich professes to oppose. Still, it could pay dividends once the GOP race again swings South. Gingrich sees delegate-rich Texas as a firewall in April. But he must slog through more than 30 contests before that....

Depends if he’s got a fast car. -jkng
Come home dixie boy
If he can resist the temptation to whine about how mean Mitt's been to him. That makes him look weak. Republicans aren't looking for weak.
I can just see Newt and Callista at a NASCAR race. Maybe she can entertain the crowd by playing her French horn during a delay caused by one of those smash ups.
We are golfers in this household, and I can tell you that we only have 2 in our org.,club that a die heart Democrats, (they are very old, by the way.), and we let them have it every opportunity we get.
If satan himself were running as a Democrat (what else would he be), but anyway, these Christian Democrats would vote for him.
Did he really say he didn’t want golfers to vote for him?
I mean, go for NASCAR, but it’s not like there aren’t more than a few voters who seem to enjoy watching PGA golf.
Like Mittens can woo NASCAR, hahahahahaha!
As dirty a race as Bishop Willard has run so far, Newt has EVERY RIGHT to come up behind him, get underneath him, get him loose and PUT HIM IN THE WALL!!!
Newt’s got my Texas vote.
If we ever get to cast one. :-(

From where I'm sitting that "whining" is usually in direct response to some "news reporter" loaded question. In Vegas they repeatedly asked the same differently worded question.
And I'll add, Newt answers THE questions. Unlike mitty who always responds with some prepared taking point that rarely has anything to do with the question.
If we ever get to cast one. :-(
Just sent in two "early ballots " for Newt here in AZ.
GentlemAn Start your engine!...Can’t ignore the roar!
A typical pile of warm WaPo dung
I just cant see nascar folks taking a liking to romney. They just dont trust him.
George Soros endorsed Romney and he has not been laughed off the stage yet..
MAybe the republican party “IS” the stupid party..
Since by their own admission they account for 70% of the votes, how cam Mittens claim victory yet?
Yeah, there was a survey that came out a few years ago that said viewers of PGA Tour events were more likely to vote Republican than any other sport. NASCAR and college football were pretty likely to vote Republican as well.
I’d like to see a direct quote attributed to Newt about this. I suspect the WaPo is using comments Newt has made about Romney being the candidate of the establishment and he, Newt, being the candidate of conservatism and turning that into this ridiculous “golf versus Nascar” meme just to try to start a new controversy against Newt.
If he has the money, organ and could finally persuade Rick to drop out, it could leave a draw at the Convention. It is time for Libertarians to forget the Paul phenomenon. He is a drag on the Pub efforts to oust Bama and the Reid Senate. That is the goal. Not to garner TV love or media approval. Mitt could still rally conservs...if...he would actually state his real conserv policies in easily understood points. He just will not do it and if he wins, I think we lose as Americans.
I wouldn't count on that, but I do think a fair number of independents and people who would by most be considered conservative have voted for him. They are the ones who must be won back.
And I agree with Palin that the GOP insults Paul supporters at its peril -- we'll need them in November.
