February 6, 2012 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Even as the United States Catholic bishops have launched an all-out campaign against the Obama administrations birth control mandate and urged their flocks to resistance, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi has invoked the support of fellow Catholics to justify her position in favor of the mandate.
Pelosi was confronted at last Wednesdays press briefing by a reporter from CNSnews.com, who began by pointing out that the mandate, which requires all employers to cover all sterilizations and contraception, including drugs that can cause early abortions, forces Catholic individuals and institutions to act against Church teaching.
Irritated, Pelosi, a self-professed devout Catholic, interrupted: Is this a speech, or do we have a question in disguise as a speech?
The reporter continued, citing a letter from the U.S. bishops, in which the bishops vowed not to comply with the law, and asked: will you stand with your fellow Catholics in resisting this law or will you stick by the Administration?
First of all, I am going to stick with my fellow Catholics in supporting the Administration on this. I think it was a very courageous decision that they made, and I support it, the minority leader responded.
The comment came as at least 164 Catholic bishops across the country, representing over 90% of the countrys dioceses, have blasted the mandate, in many cases ensuring that letters were read to the faithful during Sunday Mass calling the mandate unconstitutional and unjust.
The question by the CNSnews reporter was not the first time Pelosi has been confronted about the apparent conflict between her political views and her claimed status as a devout Catholic.
In an interview with the Washington Post this past November, she acknowledged that many Catholics object to being forced to fund abortions, noting that they have this conscience thing.
The former speaker has also said she has some areas of disagreement with the countrys bishops, and has claimed that Catholicism does not necessarily condemn abortion.
Public excommunication has been the only thing that has ever worked with political figures. Pelosi is giving public scandal and she must be corrected publicly.
The same applies to Sibelius, who has been asked privately not to go to Communion...but obviously is not even slightly disturbed by this. Until her bishop publicly announces that she is not to be given Communion and is thus outside of the communion of the Church until she reconciles and accepts its authority over that of Caesar, she’ll continue to make a mockery of the whole thing by presenting herself as a Catholic.

The biggest “slam” you can deliver to any liberal is a statement to the effect of
“you are NOT a ‘good person’ for these reasons”.
This is the end-all, be-all reason for being “liberal”,
self-righteousness.
Yours is a very good Post. I believe you are right in saying the majority of lay Catholics feel as she does. They have strayed from the teachings of the Church. The Church has strayed from them. They have watched as the Prince’s of the Church have sucked up to the Kennedy’s, and to politicians like Pelosi for years.
Ted Kennedy also excommunicated himself with his abortion stand, IMO he got away with murder, but they buried him in a Catholic service with a Cardinal at the service. They will do the same for Pelosi.
If they do not publicly excommunicate Pelosi now they have given up all credibility
Is Pelosi evil?
Don’t know for sure but i’ll bet that when her feet hit the floor in the morning Satan shudders and says..”Oh s**t, she’s awake.”
He's the one who convinced Stupak and his followers that Obamacare won't have abortion in it.
Excommunicate Doyle with the rest of them.
Pelosi is a CINO.
In the interview, Naumann says that after months of a "long dialogue" with the governor, he wrote her a letter, warning her privately not to present herself for Communion. But, he said, a parish priest informed him that she had done so.Naumann pulled out the hammer. He went public. He proclaimed that the Kansas governor should not "present herself" for Holy Communion until she changed her stance on abortion. He told the Kansas City Star that would involve a confession, a public apology and a promise to undo the damage done by her "scandalous behavior that has misled people into dangerous behavior."
I don't know whether she still presents herself as a Catholic . . .
Amen, enough of this “she excommunicated herself” crap. It needs to be a public pronouncement and the price of her readmission is a public recantation of her heresy. Other punishment, such as wearing sack cloth and ashes or whipping, will be at discretion of local bishop.
Why isn’t she very publicly excommunicated from the Church along with Sibelius, Sen. John Kerry and other “Catholics” in the Obama administration who support this tyranny? While they may have the right to hold their opinion, they should not be able to represent themselves as Catholics.

That’s good, but it sure hasn’t gotten any publicity. Maybe he needs to make a formal statement rather than just telling the Kansas City Star.
Also, dissident clergy get around the no-Communion thing by simply saying they didn’t know that this person had been told not to come up for Communion. They know perfectly well, of course, but unless there’s a formal public statement, they can just smile like butter wouldn’t melt in their mouths and lie about it. .
Twist and turn and distort all they can is the strategy. The ignorant will eat up this soundbite because something easy, like free at will abortion is what they want. They will hear what they want to hear and the liars will make that easy for them.
First of all, I am going to stick with my fellow Catholics in supporting the Administration on this. I think it was a very courageous decision that they made, and I support it, the minority leader responded.

Dear Nancy, 70M Catholics may not agree with you.
Nancy Pelosi is an alumna of the Institute of Notre Dame High School in Baltimore, an all-girl Catholic school. So is Barbara Mikulski. The two of them donated a rather large framed photo of themselves with Obama for the school to display. The sisters refused to put it up, due to the positions of the politicians on abortion.
Yes that conscience thing. Why if I didn't have one, I could be just like Nancy (oh, I might need a frontal lobotomy too).
