Last Saturday, the Maine Republican Party declared Mitt Romney the winner of the Maine caucuses. The non-binding caucuses were a low turnout affair, but Romney's victory over Ron Paul - who he beat by less than 200 votes - was a chance for Romney to reclaim some momentum in the wake of Rick Santorum's three-state sweep four days earlier.
Now, however, it looks like Romney could ultimately be stripped of that victory. If that happens, it will be the second time this cycle Romney has been stripped of a caucus victory. The first came in Iowa, where Santorum was declared the winner following a (flawed) recount.
The Maine GOP allowed communities to schedule their caucuses between Feb. 4 and Feb. 11 if they wanted them to be counted in the final tally. Some areas elected to schedule their caucuses outside that window, and the Maine GOP said those caucuses would not count. Fair enough. But according to the Bangor Daily News, some caucuses that took place within the designated window were also not counted.
In addition, one important caucus - in Washington County - was rescheduled from last Saturday, when it would have been within the window, to this Saturday due to the threat of bad weather. Paul's campaign questioned the decision to move the caucus, suggesting political interference; in a statement stating the weather report did not predict a serious storm, it said "the votes of Washington County would have been enough to put us over the top. This is an outrage."
Paul actually didn't do well in Washington County in the 2008 cycle, but his campaign saw it as a stronghold this time around. And Paul supporters have been pushing backers of the Texas lawmaker to show up in droves this Saturday for the rescheduled caucuses....

No, I think about my own conscience. I could NOT vote for Paul under any circumstances. He actually used to be my Congressman at one point, and I worked in his very first campaign. He has become seriously flaky over the years.
The choice here was to vote for Paul instead of Romney, which seems to be verboten on this forum. If I couldn’t vote for Romney, I certainly would not vote for Paul. Ever.

It sure works to slow down emotional momentum for the true winner(s). GOP back-room BS dealing at its finest. If Santorum’s Iowa win had been reported honestly at the outset, there might’ve been a different atmosphere, different assumptions, etc.
Oy. Someone has to defeat Romney — either Gingrich or Santorum.

See below. No my answer says that I would lvote Romney before I would vote Paul. But, Romney does not seemed to be allowed as an answer on this forum. THe choice given was a false one, i.e. you can’t vote for Romney, so you must vote for Paul.
I say you can vote for nobody, or you can vote for Romney. Paul is NOT a choice. Neither is Obama.
Just in case I did not make it clear, my choice is Santorum and has been since the beginning. I admit that I flirted with Bachmann, Palin, and Cain when Rick was polling at 1%, but Rick has always held my heart.
My husband and I decided a while back that we will do our part to deny Romney VA's delegates. We will be casting our primary votes for Ron Paul.
Speaking as a Virginian, I disagree. My primary will offer me the choice of Romney or Paul, period---no write-ins allowed. I can't stand Ron Paul; I think he's an anti-Semitic, Muslim-loving, naive idiot. But the lunatic has no chance of being the nominee. If I don't vote for him---or more accurately, against Romney---then Willard MIGHT be the nominee. As a Christian whose loyalty is to God first, I MUST do my part to deny VA'S delegates to that abortion-loving, sodomite-pandering, loathsome, corrupt, malicious cult member.
She also told him to stop using her voice in his ads since she has not endorsed him.

I think Bachmann, like Palin, is waiting till the nomination before any endorsement unless the nominee is evident after Super Tuesday.

I’ve contacted my state senator about this issue (Dan Patrick - very conservative), and he is still remaining “calm” about the issue; while keeping us informed about what is going on.

I think the main problem that Romney is having is that this election is SO important, and the prospect of Obama winning another 4 years is one of the most frightening ever in our country, that conservative voters are not willing to take any chances by allowing another moderate to carry the banner of our party and risk losing again. Plus Romney is so obviously a liberal, he really doesn’t pass the moderate test.

Lawyers for both sides spent most of Wednesday morning sparring over whether the panel of three federal judges in San Antonio that is charged with drawing district maps for the 2012 election has the authority to undo the legislature’s decision to split Austin into five congressional districts. Democrats contend that the original map was designed for the sole purpose of defeating longtime U.S. Rep. Lloyd Doggett, D-Austin.
The federal courts must redraw the three maps created by the legislature, because of two lawsuits that are still unresolved. Because Texas has a history of racial discrimination, either the Justice Department or the federal court in Washington must approve any changes to electoral law. The Justice Department ruled that the maps discriminated against minorities, while a three-judge panel in Washington declined to approve them.”
