Obama: Payroll tax cut extension will help with higher gas prices
The Hill ^ | February 21, 2012 | Amie Parnes

Basking in the glory of his recent payroll tax cut victory, President Obama urged Congress on Tuesday to move ahead on other policies he has put forward that will help improve the economy and benefit middle-class Americans.

“My message to Congress is, ‘Don’t stop here. Keep going,' ” Obama said at the White House in a 10-minute victory-lap speech.

“Keep taking the action that people are calling for to keep this economy growing,” Obama said before a diverse group of Americans who had written the president to explain how the extension would help them.

Obama briefly touched on rising gas prices, saying the payroll tax cut extension will help families who are struggling to fill their tanks.

For the typical family, he said the tax cut was "a big deal."

"It means $40 extra in their paycheck, and that $40 helps to pay the rent, the groceries, the rising cost of gas — which is on a lot of people's minds right now," he said.

Fearing a repeat of their December defeat, Republicans retreated on the payroll tax cut extension. The GOP hopes to now pivot to gas prices, where they believe they can hammer the Obama administration, especially if drivers pay more and more at the pump through Labor Day.

Isn't this satire?

Or, more ominously, is Obama going mentally ill at a faster rate than earlier in his regime?

My goodness gracious ~ NONE of the unemployed benefit from a Social Security tax cut. Retirees don't benefit from it. Those who've never worked don't benefit from it. Neither do the handicapped, the institutionalized, his brothers in federal and state prisons, foreigners who don't pay taxes, etc...

He's overlooked MOST of the country!

Since SS receipts no longer exceed the payout, they now have to steal SS funds before they get to the trust fund rather than after.

Using the words “payroll tax” is dishonest. What have been reduced are Social Security contributions. The Social Security system is getting closer to insolvency and Obama is making it worse by reducing the contributions. He will not take responsibility when the elderly are denied their checks.

$40 fills your gas tank once if it’s not empty!

I wonder how having the exact same tax cut as they already had last year helps with exploding gas prices?

“Your take home pay will be the same as last year, that will help pay for the gas prices our policies are driving up.” - Barack Hussein Obama

I hope he runs on that stupidity.

Not to my knowledge.

“I hope he runs on that stupidity.”

He will, and he’ll be re-elected by the collection of morons and scumbags that call themselves Americans in 2012.

Remember the inflate your tires and it will save as much gas as new drilling would produce?! Worked in 2008.

A measley $40 will help with gas prices, but significant tax decreases by government won’t help the economy? We have to have Obama and the Wookie create agencies to dole out tax revenues to low lifes and to manage our childrens’ diets through a massively inefficient bureaucracy that siphons off 60 cents of every dollar to feed itself?

This man is a maniac. Uncle Joe, Adolph, Leon and Benito would be very, very proud of him.

none of your money goes to the social security trust fund, and social security is not paid out from this fictional fund, it is funded through and paid out of the general fund.

I filled up yesterday. Gas had gone up 30 cents since the last fillup. Their $40 wouldn’t have paid for the $56 it took to fill my tank.

$40 fills your gas tank once if it’s not empty! No kidding - my 1 ton Chevy truck has a 36 gallon tank and all the gas pumps around here shut off at $100, requiring a second transaction to actually fill the beast.

Lets see... I burn a tank of gas a day. 4 days a week. The latest hike in gas prices cost me 10 dollars a day..

Sorry Zero. Your still a blithering idiot. And that says something about the idiots that did, and likely will still vote for you.

‘take home pay the same as last year’? WTF! I guess you haven’t heard some of have recently lost our careers after 30 or 40 years of hard work. Somebody needs to stuff this whole administration, or lack of it, in a dumpster and start over.

I know. I never said it did. But the government puts out report after report on the financial condition of the Social Security System. Social security outflows are exceeding inflows. The situation is getting worse every year. And the General Fund has been running 1-2 trillion dollars deficits since Obama took over.

Payroll tax cut extension will help with higher gas prices DESTROY THE MUCH CHERISHED RAT SOLCIAL SECUITY SYSTEM.

Carney: GOP cancelled Keystone, not Obama

The state run media never ever allowed GWB to get away with spewing lies like Carney and Zero do on a daily basis.
