FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. — Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer endorsed Mitt Romney for the Republican presidential nomination on Sunday, saying he is the most electable candidate in the field.

“He’s the man that can carry the day,” Mrs. Brewer said on NBC’s “Meet the Press.”

I have heard that Mormons are around 30%. That’s enough to make the difference, since Catholics, Protestants, and none-of-the-above will presumably vote along lines of maybe 55-45% at best.

It’s like the black vote. Romney would have at least 90% of the Mormon vote in his pocket, and they would all come out if ordered to.

And yet, after the very first Primary, Romney supporters demanded everyone pull behind a liberal nominee (Romney) so that he can run against another Liberal (Obama), so that Romney can get slaughtered in the General and drag the GOP down with him.

And if by some reverse miracle Romney is elected, we then have an infestation in Conservatism that we cannot remove.

Mmmmmkay. Well, I’m sick of ppl trying to sell me Romney as anything than what he is ... the GOP’s Obama.

Will never vote for Romney under any circumstances.

Yep. The real ‘treat’ of a Romney administration will be the way his half-assed, almost-remotely-conservative-sounding policies that are actually liberal policies, will be both supported by a number of Republican squishes in Congress AND will be blamed on the entire conservative movement when they ultimately fail.

There are around 350,000. That's very far from 30%.

And she was doing so well, too. Right up until that moment.

Mormons are about 5% of the AZ population.

Even if every single one votes for Romney, they still don't control the vote.

you're right, they dont control it...i'm just saying treat their 5% as though theyre 25% of the population if its a cause of theirs, because they will have a 90% turnout for issue the feel affects their church, when statistically less than 20% of the national population gets off their rear to vote maybe this year will be different, but so far it doesn't look like iţ

Hi, Geoff. I believe that calls for a third party will intensify in the future, especially if Romney becomes the nominee. Bush 1, Dole, and McCain are bad enough, but Romney won’t be borne.

I didn’t know that about McDonnell; thank you.

" What did it for me was when she called the Article 2 Section 1 defenders “CRANKS” and used the KKK to make her point. After this every few months or so she would do or say something that was unbelievable. Now it seems that she is missing the mark every other day or so.

Is there anyone left here on Free Republic that still defends her?"

I think there were one or two, recently, but they've become increasingly quiet.

I was trying to figure out what was different about Ann's face this morning as she spouted her lies, and I finally figured out she must be inflating her lips. Maybe Mitt is taking applications for wife #2.

I went to look for numbers to back that up, mormons had a 79.5% turnout for prop 8 (gay marriage bill) despite having a ‘gay mormon’ faction protesting, but then the gays mounted their own campaign and defeated it with their own turnout of over 60%

if we could get 60% conservatives coming out to vote we would have no problems! but be sure they’re coming out in force to elect Romney, if it doesn’t hit 90% I will eat a whole bulb of raw garlic on YouTube...lol

will have a 90% turnout for issue

Like I said, even if it's 100% they still don't control the vote so I don't see why Brewer would endorse in lockstep with them based on their high turnout.

Isn't there a high percentage of Mormons in Arizona? Maybe that is the reason.

Anyway....with Brewer supporting Romney, no matter what Arapio’s posse comes out with, it likely isn't going anyway. Brewer and Romney will make sure of that.

There's a much larger percentage of catholics in AZ. Many more catholics will be voting than mormons and Brewer didn't choose either of the other 2 catholic candidates.

If her decision was based only on the number of mormons voting, Brewer wouldn't have endorsed Romney.

if you're saying you're going to get a 90% turnout of Catholics who are likewise going to vote in bloc against Romney, then with respect, that's the height of wishful thinking

why are they all going to turn out in Arizona? they've yet to show any such passion or dedication in any other state

if you're so emotionally invested in this, shouldn't you be hitting the streets in AZ and turning out that conservative Catholic vote you're counting, rather than arguing simple math with people on the internet that are actually on your side?

if you're saying you're going to get a 90% turnout of Catholics who are likewise going to vote in bloc against Romney

Who said that? Many catholics are Dems, some are lazy and won't vote, and yes some will vote for Romney.

Same for Protestants.

But the Mormon bloc is small in comparison to all these other votes in AZ and I doubt Brewer is in any way beholden to them.

Who says I'm so emotionally invested? I'm just peacefully debating an issue logically with a stranger on a thread.

No, there is a small contingent of “Jack Mormons” in the state, but most Arizonans have great fun cracking Mormon jokes at every opportunity.
