A Pennsylvania doctor has been identified as the man who sent the package that caused a scare at the home of radio talk-show host Rush Limbaugh on Thursday evening.

Police said that Dr. Eric Brader, an emergency-room physician who lives in the northern Pittsburgh suburb of Wexford, Pa., sent a package that was intended to be a business proposition for Limbaugh.

Rush sure has had an interesting week. The “slut” comment, the bomb scare and his man Santorum saying Rush’s statement was “absurb”.

The guy was a fan, and was sending him a small gift and business proposition. Imagine what went through his mind as the whole thing unfolded, knowing HE had recently mailed a package to Rush and the news was talking about a “suspicious package” that had been delivered to him. I wonder how long it took him to make that connection. Kind of funny, I could see it as a plot line in a movie.

Rush said today that he wouldn’t elaborate but the contents of the package were shocking. This description doesn’t match Rush’s and I believe Rush.

He (Brader) sent investigators photos of the package's contents, which showed an engraved wooden plaque with the name John Wilkes Booth on top and a digital photo display unit attached to the plaque.

John Wilkes Booth? Huh? Wha?

My initial thought when I heard the story yesterday was that it was a test to determine the strength of Rush's security. On his radio show Friday, he equated one scanner as equal to those at airports.

The chap who shot Abe Lincoln?

A tribute to him would make me curious about the reason.

It wasn’t sent to a demolition squad, however. If I were Rush, any package that looked like it might be a bomb would go to a demolition squad.

If Santorum said Rush’s statement was absurd, then Santorum is an idiot. Or else he didn’t hear Rush’s statement in context.

It was brilliant, as usual, and the media tweak made fools of all who commented on it. Evidently Santorum isn’t as smart as he thinks.

(Although he is still my favorite candidate)

A John Wilkes Booth plaque? That could be seen as kind of shocking—what’s the point and message?

Yep, you beat me to it. Except he might have used the word "chilling".
Rush did not seem to be joking in any way, and he made no further comment.

...and his man Santorum saying Rush’s statement was “absurb”.

First I heard about that. If that is true, then Santorum just dropped a few rungs on my ladder of respect.

Actually, I think Santorum gets it. Rush himself says that you use the absurd to highlight absurdity. And that is precisely what he is doing.

Does anyone believe that Rush actually believes Sandra Fluke is having so much sex that she's going broke because of it? No...he is coming to some "logically absurd" conclusions based on the absurdity of her statements. (And in a most hilarious fashion, I might add)

It's what he does best. And Santorum gave a sufficiently vague comment to a gotcha question while, IMHO, giving props to Rush and those who understand him.

Rush didn’t say it was shocking, he said “It turns out that’s not what it was. What it was, in itself, is a little disturbing, but I’ll not share all that with you. “

A medical device developed by a doctor could easily be “disturbing”, depending on the ailment or part of the body it was intended for, and as Rush said, the x-ray image justified calling the cops. I’d call the cops over half the stuff I’ve seen going through on airport baggage x-ray screens, and I’ve had to explain electronic samples and devices I’ve carried-on several times.

I agree. Odd. Here’s quotes from a transcript of Friday’s show...

“And the e-mail I got contained a picture of the scan of this device. I looked at it.

They wanted to call the cops and have them come out and take a look. I said, “By all means, call the police.” You woulda done the same thing if you would have seen the X-ray scan of this package and, if you would have seen the outside and how it was addressed, you would have done the same thing.”

And—

“It turns out that’s not what it was. What it was, in itself, is a little disturbing, but I’ll not share all that with you.”

And—

“(interruption) No, I’m not gonna describe the thing, folks. It would send chills up your spine if I were to tell you what the package actually contained. So no point in doing that. The thing is, all of the systems in place worked flawlessly. And, again, thanks for the Palm Beach Police Department and the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office.”

I think there’s more to the story here.
