This beast is a hybrid not an all electric. It can continue on gas — running the battery down will not strand you which is good because it’s easier to carry a gas can than a new battery pack.
It succeeds in being a modern curiosity. Whether anybody in Europe will want it, that is another question.
The cheapest gasoline in the UK is $8 a gallon. Driving distances are way shorter. The Volt probably makes sense there, especially since they’re subsidizing electric vehicles as well.

Glad I read the thread comments because I was about to post the same thought.
This is just politics. These journalists want the Volt to succeed so they vote for it. It's the idea of the car (and all Obama has invested in it) that matters to them, not whether it is any good.
Wonder why Gov't Motors' Sales-Manager-in-Chief isn't telling the blacks and latino's they should buy one, in order to help ween the country off of oil?
Oh....DUH....never mind, I just realized that was a stupid question. The obvious answer would be why, when they can just steal a car with a full tank of gas and then leave it in the middle of the street when it runs out of gas. And, then go steal another one.
OR, they are waiting for obama to G-I-V-E them all one, with their food stamp and welfare cards.

Europeans have been stupid for centuries. I remember when, for many, their favorite car was the Tiger Tank.
