Rush Limbaugh Spurns Plea By Ex-Advertiser To Be Accepted Back

By Mark Whittington
March 10, 2012

The imbroglio over Rush Limbaugh, his unfortunate remarks about a student activist, and his advertisers took a bizarre turn when one advertiser who publicly denounced Limbaugh last week and pulled its ads, begged to be taken back.

The advertiser in question is Sleep Train, a mattress company. According to the Los Angeles Times, Limbaugh has turned down its request to be reinstated as a voiced advertiser, which involved the host himself endorsing the company. The reason was that Sleep Train's action had angered Limbaugh's many millions of listeners so the show could not in good conscience accept the company back.

Meanwhile, a new startup by conservative media personality Michelle Malkin, Twitchy.com, has announced that it is a new advertiser on the Rush Limbaugh program. Twitchy.com is a service that groups messages on Twitter by subject. The buying of ad space on the radio talk show is as much a political statement in support of Limbaugh as it is a play to advertise for more subscribers.

The dust up over Sleep Train, along with the blowback suffered by Carbonite over that company's public denunciation of Limbaugh, demonstrates that the iconic radio talk show host is dealing from a position of strength in the campaign to deprive him of advertisers. One tends to prosper when one advertises on Limbaugh's show. But cross him, and one will suffer.

The one overwhelming fact is that Limbaugh commands many millions of listeners. There is no evidence that any of them have stopped listening because of the kerfuffle with Sandra Fluke. Indeed, one suspects that Limbaugh has gained listeners, curious about what the fuss is all about. As long as the show maintains its listener base,

I’m really surprised at Proflowers. They’ll feel the pinch soon, no doubt. I know I’ll never order from them again. I was good for at least 3 orders a year and plan to let them know.

I’m sick about Sears. My grandfather worked for them for 40 years and I have always been a loyal customer for appliances, lawn mowers, toys, etc. Now it’s adios, Sears!

I work too hard for every dollar to waste it with companies who will only turn my dollar into an Obama donation!

Amen brother!

What the hell are you talking about? I don't know who “my own people” are supposed to be! I'm a conservative that has been a FReeper since 1999.

After I added you to my ping list of companies that boycotted Rush in post # 29 YOU are the one that private emailed me:

“Don’t pester us. Post to your own people.”

How dare you? And FYI, I'm not a homosexual. I'm a 60 yr old female. Your the hypocritical coward here. You didn't dare make your post public on this thread. Now others will see how you behave to a fellow FReeper who was just giving out information that might be useful.

Something is weird, I didn’t post all that to you, and not in private e-mail.

I reacted to your post to me, but it seems that you were reacting to my post to you.

I kindof wish Sean, Glen, and Mark and maybe others would flesh their muscles and tell some of these advertisers that if they won’t advertise with Rush they can’t won’t accept them either.

I've been wishing and hoping and praying for this, too.

Guess we could contact them in joining in with Limbaugh to see if they could. Rush paved the path for conservative talk radio - he is the big daddy.

Would be nice if his fellow conservative talk show fellas would drop the advisers, too. We can do what Levin says sometimes. We can "surge".

Looks like a lot of you have already responded. Excellent!

I'm jumping into the pool today with 24/7! Then boycott emails to the advertisers.

"Onward an Upward"!

Rush is the big daddy...conservatives on air and on print stand on his shoulders. Big Time.

>>These advertisers are really dumb. It takes years to get name recognition and loyalty. Flower shops are a dime a dozen. <<

Exactly. I can name one national flower source, ProFlowers, and for only one reason; their past ads on Rush’s show. And in one day they’ve gone from a company I’d consider using, to the one flower company I now won’t. Name recognition cuts both ways.

l’d really like Rush to let a couple of advertisers back on if they agree to fire, for cause and without any sort of golden parachute, the CEOs responsible for the insane marketing decision. That way, at least their actions would have some consequences to them personally, and maybe people would start to think twice about doing this sort of crap.

Tell it, 4everontheRight!

I'm feeling energized in letting these boycotters it goes both ways and I'd pick Rush over them "any day and twice on Sundays".

I see nothing much unusual about Trump’s hair. But Gloria wear one cheap wig. Yet Letterman and Leno mock Trump’s hair but I have not heard a word about Gloria’s awful wig. Even if she lost her hair from chemo, she could get a better wig.

Bottom Line: "Don't F**K With the DittoHeads, they are very loyal to Rush!"

Try to hurt Rush and "THEY" will gut you and watch you bleed-out!

LOL, I'll have to admit that I have never paid any attention to Gloria's hair -- probably because all I seem to see is that wretched mouth constantly spewing garbage -- and the Captain Kangaroo/Glaring Red suits she seems fond of.

Trump's hair? Well, I guess the only comment I could make is that it's getting pretty thin, and he's getting older, and the "swirl it around your head" is only going to get harder to do. But then, it appears that he is at least sticking with his natural hair color (right?).

I updated my account to unsubscribe from all mailings then emailed their PUBLIC RELATIONS address requesting that my account be closed and personal information be removed from their databases.

That should register more quickly than the next holiday.

I'd welcome a ping if you find a good company to go with. I'm already ticked off at Allstate for dropping a vaction home I own. All my other policies are with Allstate and I've been with them for about 38 years.

I bought from Proflowers once only because of Rush and subsequently got dozens of emails from them that I would just delete.

After the kerfluffle, I threw their latest email in the spam bucket and voila! - no more emails.
