Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney has the lead in Illinois but lots of voters are still trying to decide in the final days before the state’s GOP Primary.

The first Rasmussen Reports poll in the state shows Romney at 41% and Rick Santorum at 32%. Trailing further back are Newt Gingrich at 14% and Ron Paul at seven percent (7%).

You are still assuming that Santorum would automatically get 100% of Newt's voters. When repeated polls give that advantage to Romney.

You have a tendency to base your views on hypotheticals, and you rabidly defend your position on that basis. It's your choice to avoid realistic outlooks or outcomes, so don't assume that because someone points out the facts, based on realistic data, that it equates their preference for a certain candidate.

When you keep repeating that rhetoric, it makes you look ignorant and disingenuous.

Let's give it a try and see. Have Newt come out and withdrawal his support and give it all to Santorum. If he would give a great speech on Monday endorsing Santorum in Illinois, Santorum would win decisively. By the way, he did not need 100 percent of Newt's vote in Ohio....just one percent. So your ignorance is pretty sad.

Being realistic, about all Santorum can do here, is force a Brokered Convention. Because Romney is still very strong in several huge “Winner Take All” states, which will eliminate all of Santorum’s chances of winning enough Delegates.

You can keep on misleading yourself, but I see things from a more black and white perspective.

always wanted Newt to go one on one to Romney.

He did in Florida and the results were not good. Newt could easily try another state but has chosen not to for whatever reason. Santorum has stood up and is at least putting forth a full effort to get this nomination. Newt just believes it should be handed to him without working. Now you know that I am 100 percent correct on the last statement at least.

Is there a source where the Illinois polls are broken down by district? Seems that would be the most useful info looking ahead into the election there.

Oh, I see, so now you insult me because I don't agree with you.

But the facts are, Newt does not like Santorum all that well. He points out that Santorum can't beat Obama. This is not ignorant, but very realistic. So, I doubt that Newt will endorse Santorum. He just does not have the right stuff and Newt knows it. If that were the case, you can bet that Newt would have done so by now.

quite a few people would rather see Mittens as the nominee then Santorum. Doesn’t say much for them

The political figures in Penn who know Santorum better than anyone here, including you, have almost all gone over to Mitt. What does that say about Rick?

I spoke with a guy once from Rockford, who said you have two completely separate states there, north and south of I-80. I believe it.

With all due respect, I trust nothing coming out of sleeze. Not republican and most certainly definitely not dim-bulb-crat election results.

The dead people state that gave us the Cretin-in-Chief and (earlier) JFK can shove their dead people and their political systems up their collective smelly septic Obamas.

Gingrich and Carol Rove have spent too much time together. It's time for Gingrich to go back to FOX and analyze.

Rick polls better against obama than Newt does. Newt has a super-inflated ego. I like him, but, think his days are numbered. He is being a spoiler in this election, but, of course, country comes first. /sarc

Old news and not relevant. Many HERE on Free Republic were all on board with Romney in 2008. Of course most won’t admit it, but if you do an easy search you will find it. I don’t give a darn who he endorsed. He wants to beat him now and that is what matters. Normally I see the Santorum pictures and think people are endorsing him. I would at least switch the picture out and put Romney....it might get some attention. The only reason I read this was because of what you quoted from me.

- >I think you mean to say the voters

Santos is getting wins from liberals Helping him. Oh, wait-a win a dirty win is a win. Got it. Newt doesn't need dirty wins. He has people who support him for his solutions and leadership. santos can't continue without the liberals. Yes, a good plan for the fall election. Thank you for reading my mind so well.

Oh for goodness sake. Do you ever read the posts you give me? Read them and you will be amazed at how you insult me. I don’t care because my mission is to get Santorum as our President. But since you brought it up, I thought I would remind you that you are not squeaky clean.

It means we have a lot of work to do before 24 April including myself. Another donation is warranted due to your post. Thanks!
