Republican congressman urges donations to Democrats over women’s issues

A Republican congressman disenchanted with his party's stance on women's issues urged attendees at a rally to give money to Democrats to send a message to the GOP.

"I think these are very precarious times for women, it seems. So many of your rights are under assault," Rep. Richard Hanna (R-N.Y.) told a crowd at a rally in Washington, D.C., for the Equal Rights Amendment, according to the Huffington Post. "I'll tell you this: Contribute your money to people who speak out on your behalf, because the other side — my side — has a lot of it. And you need to send your own message. You need to remind people that you vote, you matter, and that they can't succeed without your help."

Hanna, who is pro-choice, went on to encourage women to become more vocal on issues that were important to them. Hanna was the only Republican congressman at the rally.

Richard Hanna is by far the most pro-abortion Republican in the U.S. House of Representatives—he even supports taxpayer funding of abortions. It is an abomination that such a liberal RINO could be representing an Upstate New York district that voted for Bush, McCain and Romney. Fortunately, it appears that Hanna finally will face a top-tier primary opponent, and she is a pro-life conservative state assemblywoman:

Assemblywoman Tenney would be a huge improvement over Hanna, and she’ll add to the ranks of pro-life women in Congress (she has a 100% rating from New York Right to Life). This will be this year’s most important NY primary election for pro-lifers and conservatives in general.

Hanna might as well switch parties. I hope Assemblywoman Tenney is able to take him out.

The GOP needs to kick Hanna out of the party. No big loss, he’s obviously a democrat.

>> Hanna, who is pro-choice

If Hanna supports killing nascent, human life, then he’s a scumbag.

A woman’s liberty is not defined by having the right to kill nascent, human life.

And when they say “women’s Issues” they don’t mean MY issues. Course by “women” they don’t necessarily mean the female sex.

Maybe we can get Wendy Davis to endorse Hanna...

Excellent! I was afraid Hanna would not get a real challenger, a couple of nobodies were already in the race.

Hanna’s disgusting and traitorous comments peg him as a potential party switcher. Look for him to pull a Dede Scuzzobama and endorse the rat, should he lose.

What RAT? None has filed yet; the deadline is April 10.

I think that Hanna will get some other ballot line even if he loses the GOP primary (he always gets the Independence Party line), so if no Democrat runs it will be Tenney on the GOP and Conservative lines and Hanna on the Independence line, with liberals and Democrats (who will be turning out for Cuomo) all flocking to Hanna, so Hanna could win merely by getting a bit of the indie and/or GOP vote. Thus, we need to make sure that someone runs as a Democrat, and that the Working Families Party nominates the Democrat or some other liberal. It can’t be that difficult to get on the ballot as a Democrat—we just need someone to do it (even if he or she is not a real Democrat).

I’ve been more indulgent than many when it comes to RINO’s in marginal and liberal-leaning districts. But Hanna has gone too far. If I lived in upstate New York, I’d support a primary against him.

Hanna sits in one of the most Republican districts in Upstate New York, carried by Bush, McCain and Romney. There is absolutely no reason why we should countenance a pro-abortion Representative in such a district, particularly one so adamantly and inflexibly pro-abortion (even supporting taxpayer funding of abortion despite claiming to be a “fiscal conservative”).

If you re-read my post #29 from a month ago, you’d see that I feared that, if no Democrat filed to run in NY-22, RINO Hanna might be able to win reelection even if Tenney beats him in the GOP primary by getting on the general-election ballot as the Independence Party nominee. Well, Hanna appears to have nabbed the Independence Party nomination; and the filing deadline is today, and as of yesterday no one had filed to run as a Democrat.

http://www.thegreenpapers.com/G14/NY#H22

If no Democrat gets on the general-election ballot, I think that Hanna would be the odds-on favorite to win the general even if he loses the GOP primary, since Democrats will vote for him. Are conservatives in the NY-22 so clueless that they let that happen instead of getting some random dude to file to ruin as a Democrat (and then run anti-Hanna commercials)?

This is even more reason to push for Tenney to win the primary. There are fears of a repeat of the election of Bill Owens, but I’m willing to chance it. Auh2orepublican is correct that some random Democrat needs to be paid off to get on the ballot and also have someone from the Liberal Party as well.

The Liberal Party folded after the 2002 elections (when it nominated Andrew Cuomo, who lost the Dem primary and got only like 2% of the vote in the general). The Working Families Party is the liberal third-party nowadays.

But the filing deadline was today, so if a Democrat didn’t file by now I fear that it’s too late.

Yes. Not just in 22, but throughout the northeast.

Not in your neck of the woods—there’s at least one intelligent, hard-working conservative there who would have gathered the necessary signatures to place a Democrat on the ballot.
