Pro-life 'October Baby' rejected by major studios, blitzes box office

The Hunger Games” wasn’t the only film to hit box office paydirt this past weekend. Although it only opened in 390 theaters, the anti-abortion drama “October Baby,” starring John Schneider, earned the second-highest-per-screen average, bringing in almost $2 million in ticket sales.

“I was shattered when I first learned about the story. I was moved and mesmerized. I wasn’t an activist, I was just someone who was shattered by the truth,” director Jon Erwin told FOX411’s Pop Tarts. “Here is our little film, small budget, in the top ten (at the box office). We are thrilled, blown away.”

“October Baby” follows the emotional journey of a young woman who learns that she was almost aborted, but at the last minute was instead given up for adoption. The film almost didn’t see the light of day.

“This film couldn’t find a home, no studio wanted to touch it. It was considered too controversial,” Erwin continued. “There was a real moment of despair at one point, the film wasn’t finished and nobody would take a look at it. But every time we screened it, it attracted such intense emotional reactions. So we had to raise the money ourselves, and the release process took much longer than we wanted.”

Hollyweird is going to find that with the way entertainment is delivered these days, they are irrelevant. With Netflix, On Demand, Roku I don’t need to rely on these toads to see a movie that interests me and disregard their Left wing crap. I am sure there are millions of other doing the same thing. I can’t wait till all the theaters in the country are turned into Olive Gardens and independent movie producers overtake the big studios.

The film almost didn't see the light of day.

As well as the protagonist in the movie. She almost didn't see the light of day, either.

This movie will not be shown at the White House. Well! Maybe in 2013.

“This movie will not be shown at the White House”

Of couse not. Hussein wouldn’t want to punish his girls with the truth about anything. They must proudly uphold the LIAR name.

The movie needs some FReeping on the IMDB. It currently has a rating of only 4.3 (out of 10) — even though 53.2% of the raters gave it a 10/10. Only 23.2% of the voters rated it a 1/10 (probably all by people who never saw the movie.

The problem is that, as with any “controversial” movie, the vote distribution is distinctly bimodal (mostly 10s or 1s). IMDB uses a secret algorithm to underweight extreme votes, as explained below. The best way to help this movie get the rating it deserves — vote “7”, “8”, or “9”. If you vote “10”, your vote will be heavily discounted. Here's the explanation from IMDB:

“IMDb publishes weighted vote averages rather than raw data averages. Various filters are applied to the raw data in order to eliminate and reduce attempts at ‘vote stuffing’ by individuals more interested in changing the current rating of a movie than giving their true opinion of it.

The exact methods we use will not be disclosed. This should ensure that the policy remains effective. The result is a more accurate vote average.”

FReep it — the IMDB ratings carry a lot of weight with movie fans.

Has anyone here seen this? How about a review?

If it’s a good movie on its own merits I’ll go see it, but I don’t enjoy preachy movies.

You know... it's just a shame that a half-white, half-arab mulatto who was trained in socialism and Marxism was elected President and has done such a bad job, and claims to be 'black'. If I were 'black' (and I have been for short periods of time), I would be ashamed of the 'white Negro'.

Couldn't the black part of America's populace find someone better?

Heck, I voted for Herman Cain.

I’m not in the film business, but everything I see indicates that pro-family, pro-life movies are steady and reliable, if not often big money-earners.

As such, why the complaints that “big studios” don’t back them? Can’t they find plenty of financial backers? Do they need the studios for distribution?

Yeah, healing and forgiveness are sooooo controversial... oh yeah, the movie didn't present abortion in a celebratory light, that's what was "controversial" in their eyes. Can't let the inconvenient facts that some have survived abortion (e.g. Gianna Jesson), that they aren't "blobs of tissue" or "unviable masses," but living human beings worthy of the right-to-life.

This is the first I have heard of it.
Once the enemy of the state (ordinary taxing paying God fearing Americans) starts talking about this film word of mouth watch the sales soar northward.
If it is a decent film on its own that is.

To compare “The Hunger Games” success to “October Baby” is a bit of a stretch. I am glad it did well but 155 million to 2 million is hardly the same. “The Hunger Games” had 3000 theater screening and October Baby had 390.....add a zero to 390 and make it 3900, it still only comes up to about 20 million using the same metrix.

The movie is fantastic and not, “Preachy.” My Lovely felt like it was the best movie she has ever seen.

It moved me as much or more (in different ways) than Act of Valor which I also hugely recommend.

I get ALL of my movies from Netflix on DVD. Very convenient. The ultimate in “on demand” watching.

October Baby and The Hunger Games are in my queue.

I have not seen it -- not playing in the City that I live in.

I am hoping it will open on more screens so I can see it.

That is FoxNews hyping up the film, not me.

But, from what I heard of Hunger Games, teenagers would be better off seeing October Baby than what I have heard about Hunger Games.

I saw it at a screening last month--February.

I was nto prepared at all for the impact it
would make on me.

The acting was top-notch, the humor was relevant, clean and cute and the story just reaches into Even the hardest-of-heasts and shows the viewers what an abortion survivor/ adopted-as-ababy teenager feels when facing the truth.

This story brings forgiveness for post-abortive mothers as well.

2-boxes worth of Kleenex, bring You must.
