Cain: Allen West for VP
The Daily Caller ^ | April 9, 2012 | Alexis Levinson

Appearing on the Steve Gill Show on Radio America Monday morning, former presidential candidate and pizza mogul Herman Cain said Florida Rep. Allen West should be Mitt Romney’s pick for vice president.

“Here’s why: he is well spoken. He is direct. People in Florida love him. He has a huge following. He is from Florida – Florida is going to be one of those key states,” Cain said. “But more importantly, Col. Allen West is a dedicated patriot; he served in the military, and he’s willing to serve his country some more.”

“Now I know that there might be some push back on his part because he’s just in his first term as a United States congressman,” Cain went on, “but my advice to him, if he were to ask me, is ‘you served your country well, and now you have a higher calling,’ and I would strongly recommend that he consider it, depending on any personal consideration that he might have.”

Cain is not the first major Republican figure to put West’s name forward for the VP slot. Earlier this month, former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin said West was at the “top of her list” for possible GOP vice presidential candidates.

“West as VP would make me happy, and I am not happy with a Romney nomination.”

Nope.

Not until he quits and publicly denounces, on the way out the door, the openly racist CBC.

Right, and then they can blame Col. West when Romney doesn't win.

He lacked experience and gravitas.

Count me in on the Allen West for VP bandwagon.

Gingrich/West would make a great ticket.

It would make for a re-run of 2008, when most of us voted for the VP candidate, and not the imbecile at the top of the ticket.

I am all in favor of Allen West for VP pick, the question is, can we get this past the swarm of flies and hangers-on that surround the Romney campaign?

This is not to say that Mitt is anything like having an absolute lock on the nomination presently, but as of the moment, it is going to be mighty hard to stop this runaway train.

Prayer, or even hard work, may or may not halt the march toward coronation of Mitt Romney in August. In the event we are stuck with Mitt, our fall-back position shall be to attempt control of the platform, and the promotion of one of our own in the #2 spot.

The only difference is that the idiot at the top of the ticket would be even more unelectable than John McCain.

I continue to think that Romney will ask Rubio, and he'll accept---despite the citizenship controversy.

There is no citizenship controversy. Rubio was born in Miami, Florida and is a natural born citizen, he is over 35 years old, and has been a permanent resident of the US for over 14 years. He's eligible to be VP or President. And yes I agree, I believe Rubio will be the VP choice. The ticket looks to me like it is going to be Romney/Rubio.

..it would be a supreme tragedy to sacrifice someone like Col. West on a sure defeat candidate like Romney—kind of like what happened to Sarah Palin...
