ORLANDO, Fla. -
Attorney Mark O'Mara, who was a legal expert for Local 6 in the Casey Anthony murder trial and the ongoing Trayvon Martin death investigation, is now representing George Zimmerman, the neighborhood watchman who shot and killed the teen in Sanford.
Zimmerman was charged Wednesday with second-degree murder in Martin's death.
O'Mara said Zimmerman will plead not guilty.
"I'm expecting a lot of work and hopefully justice in the end," said O'Mara, who added that Zimmerman is OK but concerned about his future. "He's frightened."
O'Mara said he spoke to Zimmerman on the phone earlier in the day.
"He is troubled by everything that has happened, and I cant imagine living in Geroge Zimmerman's shoes for the past number of weeks, only because he has been the focus of anger, confusion and hatred, and that has to be difficult," O'Mara said.
O'Mara, who's been practicing law for 30 years, said he's tried "stand your ground" cases in the past but added that he has a lot of work to do in this case.
"Quite honestly, I have not been involved in the case very long. I probably know as much as the media does, if not less," he said. "My hope is that the judge will grant a bond and that it is a bond the family can make."
Zimmerman's former attorneys, Craig Sonner and Hal Uhrig, announced Tuesday they were stepping down from the case because they had not had any contact with Zimmerman since Sunday.
Second-degree murder carries a maximum sentence of life in prison and is typically charged when there is a fight or other confrontation that results in death and where there is no premeditated plan to kill someone.
Watch Local 6 for more on this story.
Those other ones were clowns. Glad he got what appears to be a decent atty.

If he needs money, Zimmerman should scour the newspapers for this kind of statement.
Without “alleged” or “accused” it is libel — black letter law. And he should sue now.
I hope his lawyer is paying attention, keeping score, and taking names.

Doesn’t instill confidence in me.
The wild card here is that Zimmerman is said to have had a personal conversation with Corey with no lawyer present - a big no,no.
If he said something stupid in a less than clear frame of mind he could be screwed.
The press conference just ended and the video of the presser has not been posted yet.
Watch it if becomes available... Zimmerman has retained someone several notches above his previous representation.
If Zimmerman was a liberal democrat, I’m sure he’s shaken to the core now to see himself on the other end of certain groups’ treatment of him.
Come on! It's shaping up to be like the plot of a Tom Wolfe novel! Imagine the ratings!
This is going to be bigger than the internet.
“The wild card here is that Zimmerman is said to have had a personal conversation with Corey with no lawyer present - a big no,no.”
It is a huge no-no, but one which can cut both ways, depending on the specifics.
And now the Circus begins.
And.
While no one is looking Zero sets fire to the tent.
Wouldn't it be great if he wasn't "Merandized" with that conversation?
This is a "high tech lynching" that's going on, anyway, just to appease the black population. If he's found "Not Guilty", you can see the Rodney King verdict reaction, multiplied IMMENSELY occurring.

I wonder if he will take direct donations for Zimmerman's case? I'd be down.
We must win this one. For the America we knew. If Zimmerman loses, America will experience another civil war.
That’s right, no `person of interest’ or `alleged,’ just statements that he was the killer and strongly suggesting that it was an unjustified or unexcused shooting.
And I’m starting to think Treyvon Martin’s first name is Unarmed.
Does a second degree murder charge mean the state thinks Zimmerman assaulted Martin and initiated the fight? Doesn’t he have to be the aggressor to get second degree murder?
Sheesh! it was only yesterday that the line was she was a bitch for refusing to take his phone call when he wanted to put his side to her.
I really dont think thats how it works. It would be unethical for a prosecutor to bring a suspect in for a meeting or questioning and deny that person the right to have council present. However if the person comes in to talk to the prosecutor on their own volition and has already been Marandized or otherwise informed of their right to have their lawyer present and or their lawyer has previously advised them not to talk to the police or prosecutor without their presence, then the prosecutor has done nothing unethical.
Perhaps. Oliver did do an interview with Local 6 recently:
In the FR thread you linked to, it says that Oliver reached out to the first attorney, Craig Sonner, on Zimmerman’s behalf.
I don’t think Zimmerman has a chance unless the judge gives a directed verdict. Just wait and see. What is every defendant guaranteed in this country? A trial by a jury of his peers. Dollars to donuts the jury will be made up of a jury of Trayvon’s peers.
