Jackson, Houston leaders stand up against 'Stand Your Ground'
Houston Chronicle ^ | April 12, 2012 | Cindy George

The Rev. Jesse Jackson joined local ministers and Houston Congressman Al Green at a news conference on Thursday to call for an end to Stand Your Ground-type state laws across the nation and an end to gun violence.

The presentation at the Metropolitan Christian Methodist Episcopal Church came one day after George Zimmerman, a central Florida neighborhood watch captain, was charged with second-degree murder in the February fatal shooting of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin. The teen's death had sparked an international outcry for the arrest of Zimmerman, 28, who was questioned then released from police custody the night of the incident based on Florida's Stand Your Ground law. Numerous "Justice for Trayvon" rallies and protests have been held in Houston over the last few weeks.

...snappy original slogans.
Oh yeah...real original.

@Ten years after the Los Angeles Rebellion - No justice, no peace! April 26, 2001 (http://socialistworker.org)

Location, location, location!

Fools not realizing they're being led around by their nose rings.

The LA Rebellion should serve as a reminder to the parasites at the top of society that ordinary people won't simply accept racism, police abuse and poverty. And it should be a reminder to our side of the potential for ordinary people to explode into action--behind the slogan: "No justice, no peace!"

I had basically the same conversation with a woman at work, she a self-proclaimed pacifist.

I asked her is she would not defend her child against an attacker or rapist. She replied she could not live with herself if she hurt someone. I asked if she would allow me to adopt her child as she did not have enough intelligence to be a parent. We have not spoken since that conversation.

You are right: can’t fix stupid.

Thanks for explaining it so truthfully.

I couldn't think of a post explaining the truth of the matter without running into "Comment #X removed by Moderator".

The more examples I hear, the more it confirms to me that the essence of liberalism is the attempt to affirm the lie of “I’m a good person”.

Nothing else, including common sense and reason, matter.

A black is 39 times more likely to murder a white than vice-versa, which is why Defending Yourself While White should be a crime.

Same way I managed to omit the word “hoodie”; it wasn’t easy.

Jesse Jackson should know that we will not put up with young black men attacking us. Young black men should know what most of us know: you don’t pick a fight with someone who may have a knife or a gun. If Americans are not attacked, they will not be compelled to shoot, and everything will be happy and peaceful, and we can all get along.

“Just because a large majority of those assuming room temperature as a result of ‘stand your ground’ and other similar laws are black does not mean these laws are inherently racist. It does signal those attempting to commit the crimes are predominantly black. These so-called ‘leaders’ should be more concerned with the staggeringly high numbers of violent crimes perpetrated by and on members of the black community, rather than the justifiable actions of property owners protecting life and limb.”..

If the “law breakers” (notice not a racist remark) would not be out of control or breaking the laws, the “SYG” would not be needed or an issue now, would it?

Jessie Jackass. What is alarming to me, are the number of men I have discussed “stand your ground” with that respond just like they were reading it from a teleprompter: “Nobody loves guns more than me, but the law is dangerous and wrong”. Some proclaim to be NRA members, and conservatives, but IMO they are sheep, listening to LSM BS and going right along with the flow. Arrogant jackasses too. It is ok for them to own and carry, but no one else is competent.

The problem we have is that a large portion of the black community tolerates a high level a violence, and a not inconsequential portion venerates it.

Until we face this forthrightly as a society, it will not change.

It appears they are trying to replicate every single condition of the 1970’s which led to two Reagan landslides.

It also helps to have real leaders, not race-baiting hustlers like Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton.

SYG serves only to make the state recognize citizens have the right to self-defense. Revoking SYG changes nothing: if he was in fact faced with being murdered, he had the right to stop that attack as he did, SYG law or not.
