I share John Hinderaker’s general line on the general loathsomeness of the White House Correspondents’ Dinner – I dislike both the self-flattering fake self-deprecation of the pols and the fawning defanged jabs of the comics. A ghastly business. But I also share his appreciation for the only novel aspect of last night’s affair. My weekend column addressed Romney’s dog-transporting and Obama’s dog-eating – the former referenced by New York Times columnist Gail Collins some four dozen or so times, the latter not at all by her or any other Times bigshot. And yet there was the President of the United States up on stage doing dog-eating shtick in front of the nation. That represents an amazingly swift victory for the man who, all but entirely via Twitter, injected the topic into the public discourse – Jim Treacher.

Ping
Steyn ping!
“The Dog in the Night Time Entertainment”?.....Jimmy Kibbles? It was funny watching him hump Obama’s leg.
Now they wouldn't dare to bring it up.
Well done, Jim Treacher.
Obama just was TELLING THE MUSLIMS a wink: dogs are less filthy than women according to muslims.
This was a wink to islam, mark my words.
ANd nothing coming from dumbarse feminists either from that statement against Palin an Hockey Mums.
ONce again, we know where Islam and leftists share: disrespect of women and motherhood. They are a nation who invented to the MILF, and not the internet.
That said; thought it odd that the 'female' slam seem unnoticed; or not worth mentioning lest it detract from Obama's 'joke'.
By comparing; Obama offers in his 'humble opinion'; that he knows both well; and that the dog wins by delicious favor.
The worst 'dog story' ever. . .from the worst - and most degraded - American President; ever.
If a mutt eats dog, is it a cannibal?
Mark Steyn ping.
Ironically I was talking to a conservative friend of mine who claims to watch CNN and the rest of the lap dog media for balance. I tried to tell him about Obama and the dog eating jokes and the pol in this story and my friend did not know about dog eating either. I keep warning him that he is keeping himself uniformed by watching the old media.
Freepmail me, If you want on or off the Mark Steyn ping list.
Thanks for the ping slings and arrows and neverdem.
Its not really a DC/world disconnect so much as a housetrained media/freelance bloodhound disconnect. If you rely for your news on the poodles of the Times, ABC, CBS, NBC, etc, or the self-neutered attack-dogs of the late-night comedy shows, you would, like Ms Franke-Rutas friend, have been utterly in the dark.
Funny to think of liberals sitting at home, clueless about the 'dog eating' jokes... The MSM buys caught the jokes - they just kept the 'news' to themselves... And they wonder why they've lost credibility?
The very fact that the pResident felt the necessity to make jokes about his culinary gaffe shows how desperate he is to neutralize the damage this can cause among his squishy PETA base.
Jim Treacher is a genius.
Indeed. It did not dawn upon me that there was no MSM mention of dog-gate until reading this piece by Mark Steyn. Sweet irony that Obama did more to spread the story via his “jokes.” Pout, Barry, pout!
Well sometimes the MSMediots mentions something so later they can claim they did report on it. Though if you were a viewer, there is no way you could understand it from the mention.
So who knows, they might well have alluded to or mentioned the dog eating story. But like my friend, if one just listens to them, one would still be at a lost to understand it when you hear Obama making dog eating jokes.
