Hmm, I was thinking of the small block Cobras.
Putting an auto behind 800 HP makes sense. I might guess the manuals back then did not handle that much power very well.

It’s my favorite. Real Texas-style chili.

Something rings a bell. But I can't picture the exact place.
At an y rate, Carroll Shelby enjoyed as perfect a life as I can imagine. He did what he loved and it brought his great rewards.

The Ford Dealership at the “Y” was built by Carrol Shelby in 1968.

I saw an interview with Edsel Ford II on Carroll Shelby talking about how Shelby and Henry Ford II teamed up to win Le Mans back in the 1960’s.
Ford could not stand it they could not get any respect so he got Shelby on board to do whatever it took to win to beat Porche and Ferrari.
Edsel Ford said Ford Motor Company spent something like $200 Million in 1960’s Dollars to do it.
Lord what is that now in today's money.
Of course Henry Ford II ruled the roost then and whatever he said went.

“On the 50th aniversary year of the Cobra.
RIP Carroll”
This coming August there will be the Annual Monterey Motorsports Reunion (formerly the Monterey Historics) at Laguna Seca Raceway. This year, as it is the 50th anniversary of Shelby’s Cobras, it is the featured marque of the event. It will be a bittersweet meeting with Carroll not being able to attend as Grand Marshall. Carroll Shelby was a giant in motorsports! What he has given us is priceless!

Forty some odd years leaves my remembrance a bit shaky. However, It was on the right, heading towards Stateline, about a quarter mile past Bijou market.
It was named the “Carrol Shelby Motel” btw...

One could make a case for Shelby as “the Most Interesting Man in the World”.

It was Carroll Shelby's
Sky Terrace Motel. I can picture the sign. It seems like it was between Ski Run and the Bottle Shop. There was also a bigger motel just before Ski Run that seems to fit.
It's really bugging me, now.

The real Cobra has a single roll bar for the driver.
Here’s the deal - a real Cobra goes for around $500,000+, so whatever Cobra you see driving down the road is more than likely a replica, not a real Cobra. Personally, I wouldn’t buy a real Cobra at that price - I’d be afraid to drive it, plus the registration and insurance cost would be prohibitive. Replicas are just fine for enjoying and, frankly, in most cases faster then the original.

A month later, I believe a similar event will be held at Goodwood in the U.K. An actual road race with only original Cobra roadsters and Daytona Coupes.

Just got in from a glorious ride... I got to thinking about that motel and remembered I still have a SLT phone book from 1969 in my gear back at our Summer house in Wa state. Day um I wished I had it here in MN to clear this up for both of us!
To: JDoutrider
Of course all the phone book will tell us is the address and then we’ll still be screwed tryin’ to figger it out.
