Don't try to friend MaLi Arwood on Facebook. You won't find her there. You won't find Thomas Chin, either. Or Kariann Goldschmitt. Or Jake Edelstein. More than 900 million people worldwide check their Facebook accounts at least once a month, but millions more are Facebook holdouts. They say they don't want Facebook. They insist they don't need Facebook. They say they're living life just fine without the long-forgotten acquaintances that the world's largest social network sometimes resurrects. They are the resisters.

I have 2 opinions on this.
1) The people I’m not in contact with, I am not in contact with for a reason.
2) Having a FaceBook account will practically never get you a job. But, it’s caused untold numbers of people to lose their job, or to be passed over after an interview. The internet NEVER forgets.
I do not even know why this is considered news.
There are people who have fun with FaceBook and there are people who are not interested - it’s not a big deal one way or the other.
Seriously to make it a news story with all that’s going on around the world............
I got on Facebook a year ago, and off forever a month later. Lot of people I used to know got hooked up with me again. Was fun for a few days. Then, slowly, I began to realize that it was just as well that I hadn’t heard from them in twenty years. Very depressing, a total bummer.
Bye bye facebook.
If someone said, “You know, the CIA runs this thing.”, people would never sign up. Well, guess what? Facebook, myspace, etc., all have ties back into the intelligence communities and law enforcement. It is amazing the amount of incriminating information that is placed on these web sites.
This is a "moral-bubble". What does Facebook actually contribute to the economy besides a marginal level of entertainment and advertising?
All those investor dollars chasing growth that can't be had from mature companies whose capital & revenues are taxed a confiscatory rates.
The “big brother is looking” aspect bothers me also. I couldn’t care less what you did all damn day long anyway.
Agreed...The market valuation is ridiculous.
Some doors should stay closed after 20 years...
Would you carry a device which constantly reports your location and whose location record may or may not require a warrant for government to copy it? Well, that's a current cell phone unless you remove the battery.
Law enforcement and potential employer checks are the really HUGE reason why you should NEVER put anything out there than can and will be used against you.
I just can't believe the amount of complete drivel people “post”:
“Look, I boiled water...now what do I do? LOL!”
Facebook is inanity on a macro scale.
Whatever happened to the concept of sitting down and writing a letter(or card)to someone?Maybe The USPS could make a profit??
I couldnt care less what you did all damn day long anyway.”
I heartily agree. I just have never understood why people think they need to be in touch with so many others they don’t know 24/7. Maybe it’s because I have a business and have to talk to people all day that I don’t know and would never speak with except for this. Seems like there are no boundaries any more. Perhaps I consider FR my version of Facebook and certainly the knowledge I gain here is very beneficial.
OK I was reading the article fine until we got to this festival of stupid:
Two out of every five American adults have not joined Facebook, according to a recent Associated Press-CNBC poll. Among those who are not on Facebook, a third cited a lack of interest or need. If all those people continue to shun Facebook, the social network could become akin to a postal system that only delivers mail to houses on one side of the street. The system isn’t as useful, and people aren’t apt to spend as much time with it. That means fewer opportunities for Facebook to sell ads.
Yeah because “only” reaching 60% of Americans is so limiting. Show me ANY other advertising medium where one buy has the potential to be seen by 60% of American.
Sounds like a bunch of sour grapes are on the menu at Yahoo.
I got rid of my Facebook account six months ago and it was one of the best decisions I’ve made in a while. Also, make sure you delete your account permanently. If you simply deactivate your account, you can log back on and all of your data will still be there.
If I was looking for a job having a FB account would have gotten me at least 2 already. Because it’s a communication medium, it’s an easy place for people to spread the word among interested parties that there is an opening. In a lot of ways it’s like e-mailing all your friends without having to poke through your address book. Where once when your company was hiring you’d e-mail friends now you put it on your FB. Even if you want to hit specific people instead of the whole list, so many folks have multiple e-mails and you never really know which one they use most, send them a FB message, it’ll go to whatever e-mail account they’ve set up, giving them two spots to see it.
Lot of BS posters on here whining about ‘waste of time’, ‘contribution to the economy’, ‘invasion of privacy’, etc. Just a bunch of whiners. Stay off of it if you don’t like it. Otherwise, just shut up and quit whining. Leave people alone. Isn’t that a tenet of Conservativism?
