An attorney with a San Francisco law firm has been arrested on suspicion of felony hit-and-run and manslaughter in connection with the death of a bicyclist in Dublin who was struck by the lawyer's brand-new Mercedes-Benz, authorities said Friday.
Spencer Freeman Smith, 32, of San Ramon was arrested Thursday after police found a damaged black, 2012 Mercedes-Benz CLS550 in his garage on Baker Way, 3 miles north of the crash site, said Dublin police Lt. Herb Walters.
Smith's car had "extensive windshield and front-end damage" and was missing the parts left behind at the scene of the crash that killed Bo Hu, 57, of China, Walters said.

Who’s Bo Hu-in’ now? Wadda maroon...
I can't understand why someone would ride a bicycle on Dougherty Road at 10:30PM. That's right across from Camp Parks, with very little street lighting.

As-is, the fine for Hit and Run is not stiff enough.
If he stuck around, and was charged with vehicular homicide, he would face a potential penalty.
But, if you run, the worst they can do is charge you with a hit and run, with the potential for vehicular homocide. Basically a slap on the wrist.
How about a Hit and Run escalates whatever offence to potentially a Capital Offense? Instead of facing involuntary vehicular homocide you are now facing the same penalty as Premeditated Murder?
I suspect that would reduce the frequency of this sort of crap.
Maybe he left because he was drunk
It’s one of those rare instances where the attorney runs FROM the accident!
>> I don’t know how much experience this guy has driving on the left but I’ve done it *once*....from Heathrow to Central London
ROFL! Dude, they’re talking about Dublin, CALIFORNIA. East Bay bedroom community.
Looks like a hate crime to me. Oh wait, the driver was black.

ROFLMAO! Priceless!
There's a Dublin in California too? Who knew???? Hey,I'm Irish...when I see "Dublin",I think "ancestors".Then I think "Ohio"! ;-)
Bingo. By the time they find him he's no longer liable for drunk driving. In the mean time, he says he fled because he panicked, and that the dead guy suddenly swerved in front of him (no witnesses). So he gets off with a slap on the wrist, instead of killing a guy by driving drunk.
Lawyers.
Marcos Lopez-Garcia, 23, pleaded guilty to felony hit-and-run causing injury or death, and to misdemeanor charges of gross vehicular manslaughter without gross negligence and driving without a license, defense attorney Walter Rubenstein said.
Garcia faces five and a half years in prison when he is sentenced on June 29, Rubenstein said.
That means he'll be out in 2 years
“I don’t know how much experience this guy has driving on the left but I’ve done it *once*....”
I don’t think they drive on the left side in Dublin, California.
Your response makes sense to me now. It didn’t dawn on me.
>> There’s a Dublin in California too?
Yeah, but I don’t think the Irish influence is all that great... it must’ve gotten its name back when California real estate prices were “dublin” every five to six years... :-)
Wasn’t there a joke about a lawyer whose Benz gets wrecked and he loses his arm, and someone asks why he’s more upset about his Benz than his arm, and the lawyer goes “OMG, my Rolex!”
Well, if he was driving on the left there, then no wonder!

I think this is Dublin CALIFORNIA.
