Big Money: Romney and Allies May Outraise Obama Machine

While the political odds-makers still give the President better than even chances when it comes to holding a fundraising advantage over Romney, it now appears that the former Massachusetts Governor will be able to challenge Obama dollar-for-dollar, or close to it. The Washington Post digs into the finance situation and says that Obama and his liberal allies should be worried:

Here’s a scary thought for Democrats: It’s entirely possible that former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney and the Republican National Committee will outraise President Obama and the Democratic National Committee in the seven-month sprint to the general election.

In April, the first month in which Romney was untethered by concerns about the primary fight and in which he and the RNC linked up efforts, their combined haul was just north of $40 million — almost the exact amount the president and the DNC gathered in that time frame.

Another scary thought for Democrats: Romney and the RNC only fully coordinated for one and a half weeks in April. While there was some coordination the entire month, in states like Virginia the Victory Operation didn't even become "Romney Victory" until May, freeing up donors who were wary of donating before the state party hopped on board. The numbers being discussed are staggering, and WaPo correctly points out that Romney could dip into his own personal coffers, and will be benefiting immensely from outside conservative groups:
And then there is the Romney X-factor: his massive personal wealth, which — with the exception of a recent $150,000 donation to a joint fundraising committee for the campaign and the RNC — he has yet to dip into in this election. Although his campaign has been tight-lipped about how much more he could or would give, remember that Romney gave almost $45 million to his failed 2008 presidential primary campaign.

Add it all up — and throw in a pledge from the leading conservative super PAC to spend better than $200 million— and it becomes possible that Obama, the single greatest fundraiser in the history of American politics, might get outraised (and outspent) between now and Nov. 6.

Obama will still get a lot of support to match the American Crossroads (Super PAC) effort, including massive organized labor efforts as well as strong support from Wall Street (despite his increased regulation). Let's not forget that Candidate Obama (2008 edition) raised more money from those evil bankers than anyone in history. This election will be the most expensive in history, but for those of us cheering for a Romney victory, we needn't fret another 2008 where we're outspend 3-1. Romney will fight dollar for dollar, and we need to fight vote for vote.

You have a point. The desire to get rid of Obama means nothing, it’s just those damned Mormons.

I don’t care about his religion. A scumbag liberal is a scumbag liberal whether marxist, mormon or neo democrat.

Where do you suppose most of his "small grassroots" donors come from? It allowed him to outspend all of the candidates at least 5-1 in the primary. It will be interesting to see just how deep his supporters pockets are.

“While the political odds-makers still give the President better than even chances..” it was hard to read past this - I was laughing too hard.

I consider arguments that place Obama and Romney in the same camp to be foolish. Yes, foolish. I can see no way that Obama and Romney can be put in the same mold without taking some tremendous liberties in logic.

Hatred is a tough emotion to stop. Perhaps your love of your country will enable you to vote against the worst president ever. Perhaps you can wake up and see the differences. Perhaps, because hatred is the work of evil, which is very powerful.

I’m not a sufferer of Stockholm syndrome nor am I a slave on the Grand Old Plantation. Romney is a lying, manipulative, liberal, bottom feeder who is creating the Neo Democrat party and the disgusting piece of trash will NEVER get my vote.

At least I’m not a hypocrite who complains about Obama manipulations while looking the other way for Romney and I won’t be distracted from Romney’s support of gay adoption by breathless screeching about Obama’s support of gay marriage.

You really shouldn’t worry about me, the master’s cotton ain’t gonna pick itself.

You have one of two choices: a. Help Obama b. Help Romney

That’s it, FRiend. That’s it, regardless of rationalizations.
