Voter apathy brought Adolf Hitler to power
Fredericksburg Free-Lance Star ^ | 05/22/2012 | Rex A. Hoover

Posted on 05/22/2012 12:51:58 PM PDT by WayneH

In the 2008 election, 69.5 million Americans voted for Barack Obama, and 60 million voted for John McCain. About 100 million did not vote. Each of us was given a gift: the gift of selecting who governs our country. Most did not earn this gift; most have not paid for this gift; but we all possess this gift equally with all other Americans.

With that gift comes responsibility. We have elections every two years, and each of us can help decide who will govern us.

Yet, in 2008, almost half of eligible Americans did not bother to vote.

The party that Adolf Hitler belonged to comprised about 8.5 percent of the 80 million population of pre-World War II Germany. The apathetic majority got Hitler elected and allowed him to turn the once democratic country into one of the world's greatest nightmares.

He told people what they wanted to hear to get elected and take control of the government. His election eventually resulted in the murder of 11 million people in Europe and the deaths of more than 48 million worldwide.

The majority in Germany abdicated their responsibility to verify that Hitler was able and willing to provide what he promised, and the world paid a terrible price for their apathy.

Americans have that same responsibility. We must examine every candidate running for office, searching for the truth and discarding the lies. We must investigate a candidate's background as it relates to his suitability to govern in our best interests.

If all of his background information is not readily available, we must ask why it is being kept secret.

We must become informed by listening to both sides of the debate before making a decision. We must put aside party identification and apply the same fervor we would before buying a car or house.

Then we must show up at our polling places and give thanks for the gift we were given by voting wisely.

Most of those 100-million people are so ignorant that they think Jon Stewart is a journalist.

It's best that they stay at home.

“If all of his background information is not readily available, we must ask why it is being kept secret.”

With so much information available in the public domain and wit SO many people using the internet, there’s no excuse to be ‘uninformed’

Backstage dealing brought Hitler to power...the fact is Hitler was routed in the 1932 elections, and it was thought at the time the Nazis had peaked....but then Von Pappen saw Hitler as way to get back at his rival, General Von Schleicher. That provided Hitler with the opening he needed, and from there he and the Nazis, for all intents and purposes, launched the coup that overthrew the Weimar Republic.

lol..

In this election you have the choice of National socialist (republican) or International socialist (democrat).

WTF?!

I wont vote for either one of them.

We need a brokered convention.

Sounds like what the GOP-e is attempting to do to limited government conservatives by attempting to shove a socialist like Romney in our face.

Not true.

Voter desire for REVENGE against whomever they perceived to be making their lives miserable elected Hitler. In that particular case it happened to be Jews.

It’s why I am afraid that the banks, Wall Street, large corporations may one day succeed in electing the American Hitler if they continue to be too cute by half and keep p*ssing people off.

It's best that they stay at home.

That's a contrarian view that makes sense. Let's hope that the idiots stay home this time. A big turnout will include the dead, multiple voters, suddenly found votes which are invariably liberal.

One of the first rules of debate: the first one to bring Hitler into the discussion to justify their argument, immediately forfeits the debate.

Tell Romney and the GOP-e that they can kiss my conservative a$$.

The majority in Germany abdicated their responsibility to verify that Hitler was able and willing to provide what he promised, and the world paid a terrible price for their apathy.

This author is wrong. Adolf Hitler was indeed able and willing to provide much of what he promised, and indeed did so. His fascist Nazi government brought Germany out of economic Hades and the German people were goose-stepping towards a socialist Valhalla.

He was considered a visionary Progressive, as were Stalin and Mussolini, by the people of the West including the elite Progressives in American politics and academia who shared his views on euthanasia and fascism and thought we should follow in his footsteps. This was no nutball minority who felt this way, but the mainstream core of what we now call the liberal elites.

Very view people back then realized how Hitler's megalomania and racist obsession would lead to world war and the Holocaust.

In the ashes of WWII all the Progressive (including American) admiration for the little fascist thug was airbrushed from history.

Back on point, the German people were more than willing to trade their personal responsibility for the collective will of the state, and the fascism they voted for worked. It was a Faustian bargain in which Hitler delivered on his promises. But we all know what happened to Faust, don't we?

Hitler cut deals with Banks and Corporation unless they were Jewish.

Your point is a good one.

It has always been a reasonable expectation that the public education government has managed is to, in part, educate young people in the knowledge necessary to serve as good citizens. That knowledge must include the abilities to understand the structures and roles of government including the job descriptions of various elected officials. Broader knowledge gained through education should also enable each citizen the ability to critically evaluate candidates against the jobs to which they election.

One responsibility of good citizenship is to wisely evaluate candidates for elected office and determine which candidates have the best abilities and intentions to serve. That 100 million Americans don’t vote and that 69 million others’ votes are motivated by vacuous “hope and change” slogans or propaganda against candidates suggests they are not up to the tasks of competent voting or responsible citizenship. How can America sustain herself with such citizenry?

He told people what they wanted to hear to get elected and take control of the government.

So that is where Obama stole his plan from.

Some people, maybe most people, should not vote.
Moreover, the Federales should not have so much power as to make voting so vital. We should be able to safely ignore the Federal Government. Unfortunately, it is the biggest single economic object in the US.
In any case, I hope the number of apathetic voters will increase.

The bad news, of course, is that with candidates like Romney, a lot of newly apathetic voters may start coming from the Right.

Good catch. The dummy who wrote this article didn’t realize that Hitler was never elected. He was selected by men who foolishly thought they could control him.

If you think it’s a gift, stay home, and let the rest of us make the decisions. If you are a leftist radical (Democrats), stay home, and help make things better.
