A video posted online that shows a former union leader in South Carolina smashing a piñata effigy of Gov. Nikki Haley has riled the national office of the AFL-CIO, which wants it taken down.
“Do you think we can get this video pulled,” asked a national AFL-CIO official in an email to Palmetto State union sources.
The author of the email also worried the video might get “picked up by tea partiers, maybe even Haley herself, to attack labor again.”
The video in question features former AFL-CIO of South Carolina president Donna DeWitt smacking a Haley piñata with a baseball bat at DeWitt's retirement party over the weekend.
It is accompanied with text under the video that reads in part, “Gov. Nikki Haley has been vicious to organized labor in South Carolina, saying in her State of the State address that ‘unions are not needed, wanted or welcome.’ After years of being treated like a union thug, Donna Dewitt gets sweet revenge at a reception in her honor.”
Haley, a staunch pro-business Republican governor, has earned a reputation for being belligerently anti-union. She recently won a federal appeal in a lawsuit brought against her by a machinists union and the national AFL-CIO.
“We’re going to continue to be union busters in South Carolina,” Haley said as recently as May 19, while introducing Florida Sen. Marco Rubio at a state Republican Party fundraising dinner of roughly 1,200 in Columbia.
South Carolina has one of the lowest organized workforces in the country.
Pro-union sources in South Carolina say they aren’t worried about the video.
"[Haley] has been whacking at us since she realized how much money the business PACs can contribute in South Carolina," DeWitt tells Free Times. "We felt justified in taking a whack back."
The footage was shot at the South Carolina Progressive Network’s 2012 spring gathering May 19, at the CWA Hall in West Columbia.

I have family in SC, and they are all gentle, kind, church going folks. I don’t know where these animals came from.
Union Thuggery - not just for retarded men anymore.
I love it! Haley really is a conservative who is having a lot of trouble governing due to the total obstructionism of the good ol’ boy network (Dem and Rep) in Columbia and Charleston. She lost much favorable sentiment with the grassroots SC voters when she endorsed Romney in the primary that Newt won here.
This ought to restore some favor with her original supporters. The same people who trashed Mark Sanford have been trashing her — fairly successfully so far. Maybe this video will help. Need to forward this link now.
Unfortunately, even here in South Carolina, one of the reddest of the red states, we have union ass wipes. Not too many, but we do have them.
Most South Carolinians think unions are a joke.
Another reason I retired here.
We need to stop being outraged by this crap and respond in kind. Its the only thing they understand and then let the media scream about what we do.

Attacking them with the TRUTH. It's a concept completely foreign to the left. Instead, they work to suppress the truth, even brazenly out in the open. That's because they know the state of our culture, where truth matters little and the ends justify the means.
So glad they continue on the high moral ground. So sad conservatives fail so horribly. My G-d, why can’t we be more “progressive”.

Some peoples don’t know how the interwebz works. After being available on the web for a nanosecond, a bazillion copies are made and reposted on alternate sources.
Just like booker gave us a great quote about Romney’s company Bain, this is (yet more) proof positive that unions are led by thugs.
Talk about the gang that couldn’t shoot straight (thank God).
They’re not upset that they committed a hate crime, they’re just upset someone might see it.
