Obama sees global admiration and 'a new confidence' in U.S. leadership (Long Article)

On his way to three Western fundraisers (and another this morning) President Obama stopped by the Air Force Academy for a commencement address Wednesday that presented a stunningly sunny appraisal of the country's status in the world under his leadership.

The president didn't have time in his 3,300-word, 27 minutes of talking to mention the trillion dollars in cuts looming over the nation's military and how so many senior officers are being cleaned out of the services, with thousands of civilian defense workers also on the chopping block. Obama made one passing reference to a "leaner" military under "our new defense strategy."

Nor, for some reason, was he talking about domestic issues and achievements.

Thanks in large part to air power, Obama hailed the ousting of Libya's dictator, who threatened to kill civilians.

But he didn't have time to explain his empty rhetoric on Syria's actual slaughter of thousands of civilians. Nor was there anything on addressing the $5 trillion in new national debts accrued under his presidency or how much all of his planned troop reductions in every service will increase the unemployment rate, still above 8% despite his stimulus spending promises.

In contrast to Obama's campaign warnings about you-know-who in the opposition you-know-what party, Obama's podium tone sounded overwhelmingly positive. He talked of 10 years of war winding down and said, thanks to his military withdrawal strategies, "Now, we can see a light -- the light of a new day on the horizon."

My jaw dropped. That doesn’t happen much anymore when learning of the actions and words of this Administration’s rape of America.

Is it too early to have Obama committed to an institution that can help him?
