For Many Illegal Entrants Into U.S., a Particularly Inhospitable First Stop
The New York Times ^ | May 26, 2012 | MANNY FERNANDEZ

EDINBURG, Tex. — For decades, the first stop for illegal immigrants making their way across the Texas border has often been a stash house or drop house, an apartment or rental home where they might spend hours or days in squalor waiting to be transported elsewhere. Often it is where they are held until their families pay the smugglers’ fees. But in recent months, stash houses have proliferated in border towns in the Rio Grande Valley and in cities farther north, like Houston, a trend that has been occurring in Texas but not in other states on the border.

And local, state and federal authorities in Texas say these houses are becoming increasingly overcrowded, with smugglers packing in dozens of people and treating the occupants not so much like customers but prisoners whom they starve, beat or rape.

Things are supposed to get inhospitable when you do something illegal. How is it that the NYT is still around while having been on life support for the past five years or perhaps longer . . . ? The paper is truly an abomination.

It’s alright, don’t worry about it, the government has the issue well in hand. See, all of this is just because of our draconian immigration laws which don’t permit people to just wander across the border at will. So they’ll fix the situation by seeding the media with these stories, and then fix the ‘problem’ by making yet another amnesty attempt... After all, these are future voters, once ACORN or it’s present incarnation gets done registering them.

This happens to illegals in Texas?

Man, that state’s governor must be “heartless”.

Least he could do is give ‘em in-state tuition (/snix).

This is a relatively straight forward story and goes to the heart of why a strong border and functioning immigration system and policy is such an important Conservative issue.

These people are being abused and taken advantage of, every step of the way. They are extorted for large sums of money with promises of easy passage and work in the land up North. A mythical place that allows for people to work and send money home while being provided food, clothing and shelter from a generous Welfare system that allows even the least motivated to grow fat from an abundance of food.

Who could blame anyone in the abject poverty and injustice that occurs in much of Mexico and Latin America from trying anything to change their lives? I do not blame them, I blame the feckless politicians who claim an inability to do the easiest thing in the World for a country to do, close their borders and control traffic along their frontiers. The control of the border and of immigration is not a meanness it is kindness. It helps and protects the citizen and immigrant.

I bought Jan Brewer’s book, “Scorpions for Breakfast,” but had to stop reading it. It was so graphic about what they were finding in stash houses, etc., that I couldn’t stomach anymore. It was a real eye opener. If only more people knew....

“We were used to encountering 10 to 15 people per stash house in the past,” said Enrique Sotelo, the Alton police chief. “Now we are not surprised when we see 40 to 75 people crammed into small two- or three-bedroom houses.”

This is a perfect application for aerial infrared heat detection, but the Feds would rather use it looking for grow houses because there is money to be made.

There is no money to be made finding and deporting illegals.

I could give a rip for the illegals, it’s what they’re doing to our country that infuriates me! As I’ve said before, if f**king Mexicans would put just half the energy into FIXING their f**king country that they put into DESTROYING ours then THEIRS wouldn’t be a country they have to run away from!!

That is the disgrace of it. Instead of Mexico reforming their own country, they are permitted to use us as a safety valve to export their poverty. Keep the able bodied males down there and let them agitate for change and reform in their own country. There is no reason Mexico should be the basket case it is being next to the richest country in the world for over a century of modern developments if not for the rampant corruption.

That would be a gross conflict of interest and show them to be “state media”. But no, such a thing would not surprise me in the least.

This is what the liberal media says happens to them . . . obviously an attempt to foster sympathy to allow them to just waltz across the Rio Grande. Michelle Malkin presents this viewpoint.

And of course the Mexican president does not get the same kind of negative press as the USA does when he builds a wall between Mexico and Guatemala.

They still do blame the USA for being the biggest illegal drug consumer on their borders. Even if we legalized all the currently-illegal drugs, I doubt it’d make the cartels go away though.

Mexico has more billionaires per capita then any other Western country. It’s never been a country based on the rule of law or the respect for it. It’s a kleptocracy where every Mexican steals every thing in sight and blames the United States and I’m beyond fed up.

Legalize and tax the hell out of it. Taxes put anything out of business.
