MONTEREY, Tenn. -- "If somebody told me this happened to them, I absolutely would not believe this could happen in America." "You live in the United States, you think you have rights -- and apparently you don't," said George Reby.

A check documents itself.

The guy was driving around with $22k and no idea where he got it. I suspect the cop knew more than he will say (someone gave up the guy). The guy knew the cop had some 411 so he gave up the info about the cash rather than get caught in a lie. Otherwise I think he would have played the Quiet Game.

What’s this “false argument” B.S.

It is suggestive of one thing that Joe Citizen can do to protect himself, and at the smallest cost yet known to man. It is left to you, the reader, as an exercise of how most gainfully to deploy it, if you aren’t lucky enough to be one of the MSM.

Appears to be much more recent than that.

This is an outrageous betrayal on the part of the politicans and government of Tenn. Why can’t it be stopped in court as a violation of the State and/or Federal constituiton? I’m not driving through Tenn or Louisanna.

I try to avoid Louisiana as well. Over the last 40 years, the majority of law enforcement in Louisiana that I've encountered should have left their day jobs and hit the pro bass fishing circuit, because I have never seen a group of people who fish as hard as they do.

Other reasons to avoid Tennessee:

I-10 in Louisiana has been a big target for these operations.

Louisiana in general is like this. Out of state license plates? Might as well paint a big ole target on the side of your car.

I was stationed in Louisiana for a bit, and I loathed driving between there and Texas or there and Florida. I did learn a trick - hanging my uniform up in the back of the car so it was easy to see. It seemed like I was pulled over a lot less. When he had relatives visit us from Texas, we used to joke about the chances of them getting pulled over based on whether or not they had a nice car combined with out-of-state license plates.

Probable cause “ensuing” might have been a Freudian slip, after all, if an officer really wants to search your car, they can just keep asking questions and probable cause often “ensues”.

Back in the 80’s when I was selling real estate we had a guy pay us $80,000 cash for a property we brokered. He wanted to get the money into our account and brought in a grocery sack of $5’s,$10’s and $20’s. Took two of us over an hour to count it all.

Texas Sheriff’s deputies robbed an old girlfriend’s 20-something son of $3,000 on a 2:00am traffic stop because “he was driving a rental car” and didn’t have a pay-stub for the money.

They lived out of state and it would have taken more than $3,000 to hire an attorney to fight it.

...police agreed to drop the cases in exchange for a cut of the money -- $1,000 in one case, $2,000 in another.... Miles called that "extortion."

Sounds more like "Bribery".

Only an idiot would pay cash for a car.

“I’m paying cash”
“OK give it to me and I’ll get a receipt”
Later
“Where the receipt for my money?”
“What money?”

That's where you grin and pull out your pistol.
"You know, any theft above a $1000-value is grand larceny... and I've heard that it's A-OK to shoot a fleeing felon... Run!"
