Debt Up $1.59T Under GOP HouseMore in 15 Months Than First 97 Congresses Combined.
The Republican-controlled House of Representatives, which took office in January 2011, has enacted federal spending bills under which the national debt has increased more in less than one term of Congress than in the first 97 Congresses combine

The House passed a budget. The money has been spent under continuing resolutions because the Democrat Senate won’t vote on the House passed budget.
Someone needs the moxie to let the Fedguv suffer an utter funds shutdown. No more of this resolution nonsense with its non budget budgeting.
Our problem is not the democrats or the republicans.
Our problem is not Obama, or Pelosi, or Reid.
Our problem is our fellow citizens.
Does anyone have any common sense or thought any longer?
The GOP House has passed several budgets only to have them ALL stopped by Harry the pig Reid and his demoncrat led Senate. So, they run the country by passing continuing resolutions. By law, they have to pass budgets, only the demoncrats get by it by the continuing resolution process.
It has been about three years since the demoncrats have actually let a budget come to a vote.
Boner, Cantor and McCarthy need to all go! They are part of the problem, not the solution, especially Boner, He’s a complete disgrace and a failure.
Democrats say they will raise taxes and eliminate choices in health care, education, guns and general economic freedom, and they DO, while Republicans say they will reduce taxes, shrink government, cut spending, simplify the tax code and reduce regulations but they DON’T.
The House passed a budget that would help bring down the deficit; without action by the Senate, the House is left with two choices:
a) pass a continuing resolution
b) let the government shutdown.
The latter option sound nice, but the blame for whatever problems result from a government shutdown are assessed by the media as follows:
i) if it’s a Republican President, any government shutdown fiasco is the fault of the President
ii) if it’s a Republican legislature, any government shutdown fiasco is the fault of the legislature.
A government shutdown threat is a game of chicken, and the media will tilt the playing field so that Obama looks like the savior and the House GOP looks like Scrooge.
Like it or not, the best strategy is push on to November, keep the House, take the Senate, dump Obama, and put grownups in charge.
and put grownups in charge
Like Romney, McConnell and Boehner?
If the Pubs are going to wait around till they control things.. lets look at Bush... Ya... That worked well.. Seems they had control of everything. Did anything happen? well... no. Lower taxes yes.. Lower spending? No.
I’ve given up on both parties. They are blending in to one. I will support those that have EARNED my support. The rest. They are the problem.
There was no budget for FY 2010.
Nor were there budgets for FY 2011 and FY 2012.
Nor will there be a budget for FY 2013 (which starts this October).
As a consequence, the last budget baseline was the FY 2009 budget -- which included Porkulus. The government's baseline budgeting has given us a prescribed spending level with another Porkulus built in, plus specified annual increases, ever since.
Can anybody doubt that this is exactly how the Democrats planned to "manage" spending from the git-go.
The money has been spent under continuing resolutions because the Democrat Senate wonât vote on the House passed budget.
Or is this a mind trick to goad the House into standing fast this time so the RATs can play the gubermint shutdown card for election time?
Well, if we had Clay, Calhoun, and Webster to fall back on, it’d be an easy choice.
But I’d put my kid’s 6th grade infield in place of Pelosi, Reed, Fortney Pete Stark, Chuckie Shumer, Sheila Jackson Lee and the rest of that donkey freak show any day of the week.
Look, b*tch about McConnell and Boehner all you want - there’s plenty there to complain about - but the last GOP budget (the one that was in effect the first year the Dem’s took over the legislature) had a deficit of about $150 billion. As soon as the Pelosi/Reed budgets began to kick in, we began the road to hell we’re on now.
I don’t have any delusions of any instant perfection if the GOP wins it all in November. All I know is it won’t be Pelosi/Reed/Obama - and I’m not going to let those jackwads back in power if there’s any way to around them.
The baseline budget demands this spending unless they can override it in a budget that can pass both houses and survive a veto.
and who in the current GOPe leadership is going to turn the USS Titanic around before it hits the iceberg? How bout in the potential GOP leadership after the election?
Honestly, not a one of them. Obama has the throttle wide open, at best, the republicans will pull it back a click.
Exactly. They do not have to follow guidelines, I.E. a budget. So, when they want to, they can add in all the pork or bribes and payoffs, like the solar energy failures, they want.
Its actually a free for all. And there are many ignorant idiots in this country who have swallowed it hook line and sinker. The taxpayers get to pay for all this thievery.
If we had Shut it Down in this last debt ceiling fight, we would be much better off. The Republicans who didn’t have the spine to make the tough decisions when they had the opportunity to, will be sitting in the same seats next year. They will continue to spend.
Nobody is talking about balancing the budget anytime soon. Why? All the talk about is some percentage of the GDP to be allowed as deficits. Hoocuspocus.
so be sure and vote dim ....IF only the house were involved then it would be one thing. Until we have true conservatives in both chambers there will be struggles. The truth is it would be worse under Pelosi and crew. IF you can;t see that then you can’t see anything
Does not seem to matter who we elect anymore.
Well under Bush the marginal tax rates were cut and there was growth. Part of the problem was some of the old line GOP who think that things like the Bridge to Nowhere are a good idea. Part of the spending issue during the Bish years may have been something that happened on 9/11/2001—— or did you forget that ‘incident’ that changed the direction of the country. Life is not static inspire of all your forgetfulness.
Sometimes I think FR is now only a fringe that does not understand politics at all....The idea that the Republican House is the bad guy is obscene
And yet these people buy it
Takers - both citizens and illegal aliens.
Doesn’t mean the GOP House isn’t responsible for the spending.
After reading the entire source article, they seem to imply the House should have shut down the government. Unfortunately, any party that does that will get creamed in the next election. America has become a bunch of addicts, and the drug is government entitlements.
They suspected they would lose the House in 2010. So, they took away the House's spending discretion -- choosing to let baseline budgeting set the spending totals and the priorities. Sold as a one-time-only measure, Porkulus was deviously built into the budget framework -- where it remained in the annual baseline. In fact, Porkulus wasn't just a one-time-only trillion dollar "investment", it became four trillion dollars in scheduled (and politically uncuttable) spending.
The 'Rats then anticipated that continuing resolutions -- plus occasional negotiated boosts in the credit limit -- would be the only budget management tools remaining. They essentially de-fanged the House's traditional role in initiating all spending bills. Instead, the House was left with NO role.
I wonder just how many other little "time bombs" are buried in the legislative weeds... <
Is there no constitutional process that the left will not sabotage -- to serve their own political agenda?
I think the lopsided vote on Obamacare says all one needs to know about who is doing what
This should be on every billboard in the country.
If the Republicans refused to raised the debt ceiling the debt problem would take care of itself in spite of all the name calling by the Democrats. We would wake up tomorrow and the sun will still rise.
Yep - letting it shut down now insures another Obama term. If we get the Senate in Nov, they might be able to actually get something through that makes sense. Yet, many here will....(take your choice of who they'll blame/cut down/castgate).
Well, that's true in part.
The problem is the number of them who are allowed to vote. The universal franchise contains the seeds of its own destruction - and it is destroying us right now.
That will change because it must change, but the transition is likely to be very painful.
This is exactly what has happened and I can't understand why the Republicans haven't made a huge issue out of it to force Reid and company to to vote on more realistic budgets. Every time a continuing resolution has come up the Republicans should have raised this “bloody shirt” in Obama and Reid's face. Close down the government, not hardly! Just take away Obama's credit card. Please write your congressman and Senator about this... They have to listen.
Nice try by the psychopath media but how can they ignore that the Dems control the Senate and Rubber Spending Stamp?
Funny, we don’t read stories on Obumbles deficit setting records.
I was wondering the following yesterday:
IF ZerObama wins re-election is there a chance that he can accumulate half(or more) of all the debt in the history of the USA?
- he is way past $5,000,000,000,000 after only 3 years!
No I did not forget. I am insulted that you think I did.
However, during the Bush years there was lots and lots of non 911 related spending that was absolutely insane.
“Our problem is our fellow citizens.”
Totally agree. And we are importing more each year, legal and illegal, mainly from countries where cradle to grave government is what they know and understand.
These imports, to my knowledge, largely vote (legally and illegally) democratic. Though as an earlier poster commented it really does not seem to matter much whom we vote for, we get the same results.
“Is there no constitutional process that the left will not sabotage — to serve their own political agenda?”
Your answer is; The ends justify the means. They do not follow any set of rules (constitutional) and you basically answered your own question. Their political agenda is first..hence, the ends justify the means. Right out of the communist manifesto.
Don’t be insulted. I responded to a flat statement that allowed for no acknowledgement of the times. IF you actually read ALL of my answer instead of just being insulted you would have seen that I in fact addressed the excess spending of the repubs in charge
Given my advertising background, I can assure you it's way too long for a billboard.
And it's too long for a TV sound-bite. And no newspaper is going to report it.
This forum gives us the opportunity to explain things as cogently as we can to each other. But, outside of talk radio, there is no way that the Republicans can effectively communicate what has happened to the public -- in a way that it can be readily understood.
Even then, such abstraction are difficult to communicate vocally -- as opposed to the written word.
The best approach to the problem is to squash the Democrats like a bug in November, win another dominant majority in the House, gain a dominant majority in the Senate, plus the Presidency. Then set about reversing everything these traitors have done over the past eight years.
Then, go about implementing our own vision...
ugly : )
The economy will become not just 'ugly' but totally fugly . . .
This helps the TP.
Let’s not try and cover this up.
