Mad Men era isn't dead: Half of female workers today believe they are sexually discriminated..
UK Daily Mail ^ | June 7, 2012 | Lucy Waterlow

Those who lived through the Fifties and Sixties - or who are reliving it through TV shows like Mad Men - will be familiar with how sexism was once rife in the business world. Women were treated as inferior with chauvinistic jokes and physical contact like a slap on the bottom all part of office life. Many would now hope that times have changed but, according to a new survey released today, this behaviour is not a thing of the past. Researchers found that half of female workers believe they are sexually discriminated against on a daily basis.

My rule of thumb is to avoid female workers as much as possible. Treat each as a time bomb that could explode on you.

Doesn't bother me. I work with 12-15 women every day (accounting) age 20-40's on average. More than 4-5 women in a group the subject matter turns to sex every time. Heard jokes and sexual subject matter from them that makes us men look like prudes/pikers.

“The study also revealed a further 43 per cent claim to have been sworn at by colleagues”

Boo-frickin-oooooo

I swear at anybody who deserves it, man or woman.

My observation is that that rule of thumb applies not only in the workplace, but everywhere.

I did my part for the continuation of the species for the past 19 years, and now have a wonderful daughter, and a friendly ex-. I now see no reason to make the rest of my life unpleasant by pretending that I can deal with women on a close-up basis, whether at work or romantically. I love my family and they love me. That's enough. Happy bachelor, here.

Excellent rule. Math also helps when reading articles like this. For example, given that half of women workers are less competent than the other half, one could reasonably conclude that “half of female workers” will not be given as many opportunities.

Geez, yeah. The only people I don't swear at are the ones I don't consider friends, and therefore are not comfortable with.

If you can't swear at your friends, who the hell CAN you swear at?

Of course they believe it, that is what they are told by the media every day. Heck, this country is terrible and they need to implement marxism to feel better.

Why should anyone have to be sworn at in the work place? Swear at me and I don’t hear anything more you have to say, you have just made yourself invalid.

It’s important to remember that back in the 1950s and 1960s, the men who did these things and got away with it, were up and coming in the business world. Female tolerance for such antics increased markedly if a man was young, handsome, and with prospects for advancement and wealth. “A potential husband on the hoof” was very easy to forgive.

At the same time, the prospective future for many women was very different. For many women, college was to learn how to get a man, and a job was to get a better man, in competition with other women who had the same goals.

What really changed everything was not the feminism propaganda, but that the feminism propaganda was preached to a receptive audience. Women realized that even if they “won” by getting a good husband, they were pretty relegated to having and raising children, *for a dozen years*, doing housework, and being terribly bored the rest of the time.

In earlier times, doing such things was much harder. But with labor saving appliances, and public schools, there was a lot of free time to just sit around and ponder their resentments. Maybe forty years of boredom.

Suddenly “consciousness raising” was all the rage. And on a positive note, at the start the motivation was a good one, that the wife could bring in extra income to raise her families’ prosperity.

But then taxes were raised, and kept being raised, so that a family couldn’t do as well on a single income, and the mother *had* to work just to pay the taxes, and so her family could keep the same relative level of prosperity they had, with just one breadwinner.

So they traded boredom for slavery.

And the first time it becomes financially viable for them to accuse you of something, they will turn that buddy-buddy crap into a history of sexual harassment. Count on at least one of them.....plan on all.

Less attractive women, like less attractive men, are discriminated against.

Attractive people have it easier.
Better manners, hygiene, adornment etc. make a difference.

But brown nosing is apparently the most advantageous characteristic (next to governmentally-mandated advantages).

I have never, in my career, seen women slapped on the backside as a normal course of work. Why? Because men know that one uncomfortable trip the HR will be forthcoming immediately. One glace that lingers a second too long, a comment that could be taken the wrong way - men are the target, and there is a strong Double-Standard in place. Women can touch men almost in almost any way, say almost anything - and no man dares return the treatment.

I avoid women in the workplace - like another poster stated “they are a time bomb waiting to go off”. Like cross-dressing men, and flagrantly acting homosexuals, women are a protected class.

If you are a straight white male, you have a target on your back.

Key word here is "believe." There may be absolutely NO evidence to support that belief, but this writer quotes it as though it's established fact.

I "believe" I'm built like Batman on a daily basis. Even though my ever-expanding waistband would seem to contradict that ... I "believe" the buxom barrista at the corner coffee shop has the hots for me. Even though my wife tells me otherwise ... I "believe" I'll have another beer. Even though my wife tells me otherwise ...
