Former Republican presidential contender and Pennsylvania U.S. Senator Rick Santorum announced the formation of a new conservative group Friday, saying it will seek to thwart President Obama's bid for re-election in 2012.
"The defeat of Barack Obama, and those who support his policies, will be our first priority."

Anyone who doesn’t realize Santorum isn’t a conservative doesn’t know what they are talking about.

Oh I understand the logic of it. To defeat Obama, the only way now is hold your nose and vote Romney - and that is obviously true. But surely, the enemy is not Obama per se, but socialism/liberalism generally, and by voting Mitt, are we not ultimately empowering that?
Let me put my reasoning to you. What I mean is that another term of Obama is going to mean great chunks bitten out of what is left of America, but a term or two of Mitt Romney is not going to restore anything. It will mean nibbling at what is left of America rather than biting at it. The "progressives" win either way.
And once again, how is a Mitt Romney presidency going to mean "a new generation of true conservative candidates" in four to eight years time? The GOP does not field candidates on their principles. They field candidates that the most number of people will put up with. If true conservative voters do turn out for Romney in significant numbers, it sends a clear and unequivocal message that RINO's can safely be on the ticket for the rest of time.
Finally, there is a strategic issue here. The economy is tanking, unemployment remains high, America's reputation overseas is at an all time low, inflation is beginning to rise, corruption and graft is endemic and the levels of debt are at staggering levels - possibly irretrievable levels. Of course, as conservatives we know exactly why - socialism as a system just simply does not work, and every passing day makes that more and more obvious to all but the most dedicated or mentally challenged statist. In other words, this might be a "good" election to lose. It would be horrid if a Republican got in just in time to take all the blame for Obama's folly, thus ruining the chances of the next guy four years down the line.

It will take us 10 years to undo obozo’s first 3 years. If we give him another 4 years, it could take 50 years to undo the damage (remember, we are STILL tryoinh to undo the jimma carter damage and we will NEVER undo the damage clinton did (9/11 is on his head).
We can’t hope for the best — we are in damage control mode. The union and our liberties may be lost, but we can staunch the bleeding.
Romney is coming around — whereas barry is digging in his heels against the USA and liberty.

All well and good, but if one digs a little deeper, all of these rankings are based on cherry picking a few votes and not any deeply held personal principles.
Santorum could have stood up when it counted and vote against No Child Left Behind and the Prescription bill but he decided to “be a team player” and vote for two huge expansions of federal government power. Both of these were “severely un-conservative” anti-family, anti-American pieces of legislation.
The Chamber of Commerce?? Don’t those folks support our socialist trade agreements??

In other words, defeating all principled limited government opposition to the executive branch, by co-opting the conservative movement into supporting watered down socialism because “the alternative is worse”.
Romney is just as bad as Obama on policy, but in terms of undermining the conservative opposition to big government, Romney is probably worse.
Why does Rick Santorum have an A+ rating with the NRA? Don’t know? I’ll show you why:

Read that carefully, and you should see that without Rick Santorum we’d be purchasing our guns from other countries, maybe Red China.
So why did Santorum not stand up and vote against NCLB and the prescription drug plan?
All of which illustrates that Santorum is not a conservative, not for limited government, not for fiscal responsibility, and not for obeying his oath of office. The federal government does not have the authority to be involved in education in any way.

Romney has gone further of course, embracing not just TARP, but healthcare mandates and failing to even fully criticize the Obama stimulus spending.
Only Gingrich or Santorum will wage a campaign that fully challenges Obama’s whole agenda and actually works to repeal it. Newt has pegged Mitt Romney rightly as a Massachusetts moderate, but Newt is not without flys in his ointment either, from global warming to embracing Hillary, Pelosi and Al Sharpton (!) at various times in attempts to ‘reach across’ bipartisanly.
The bottom line is that between Newt, Santorum, and Romney .. Santorum is the one who is most fiscally conservative and who will have the most fiscally conservative administration as President.
Both Newt and Santorum are conservative. Just not perfect conservatives

If Romney loses, or even if Romney wins, and decides to be a one-term president, take a HARD look at Rick Santorum in 2016, if you are conservative, that is.
Personal perfection is not expected. Honoring one’s oath of office IS expected, at least by conservatives and constitutionalists. Santorum is neither conservative nor constitutionalist. He is a sociopath, a fraud, and an admitted statist.

I’m not the one who is touting Santorum as a great conservative. You claimed that he was, when Santorum is just as much to blame for the destruction of the Republic as Barbara Boxer.
Check closely into Santorum’s record and you will find that his ‘courage’ was mostly rhetoric at fundraisers. His actual voting record was not all that good. On cherry picked votes, he can be made to look good, that’s all.
So you canNOT name even one conservative politician, and tell us how they are different from Santorum and WHY?
