Grand jury to get case of Texas dad who beat alleged child molester to death

A Texas prosecutor said the case of a rancher who beat to death a man he caught allegedly molesting his daughter will go to a grand jury to decide whether the killing was justified, or an act of excessive force.

The father, whose name has not been released by authorities, claims he caught the man trying to molest his 4-year-old daughter on his ranch Saturday. Although Lavaca County Sheriff Micah Harmon said the girl’s father is unlikely to be arrested, District Attorney Heather McMinn told FoxNews.com the case remains under investigation and that the Texas Rangers have joined the probe.

“Once completed, [results of the investigation] will be forwarded to the district attorney’s office and it will be taken to a grand jury,” McMinn told FoxNews.com. “They’re still investigating what happened at this point.”

The grand jury will ultimately decide what charges -- if any -- the girl’s father will face, McMinn said.

Not IMHO. My kids are grown now. Had anything like that happened to them as children I’d have done the exact same thing. The phrase “beaten to a pulp” comes to mind. Would have needed DNA to ID the pervert, not even dental records would do.

I would vote to acquit. No matter how much the judge threatened me.

Civilization is built on many things, but at the core is you protect your kids. I admire this father's restraint.

Anyone who did that to my child find themselves without any equipment to do that kind of evil ever again. Courtesy of my rage.

It used to be that society took care of the fetid cancers in their midst.

Should be a matter of about 30 seconds to declare this killing “justifiable homicide.” The father should be nominated for the Medal of Freedom.

I agree. The little girl was only 4 years old. If he'd had sex with her, it could have killed her. She would have had serious internal injuries. The father saved her life.

At first, I assumed the dad was in the right. Upon reflection, since the accused would-be molester is dead, and originally I read he was caught in the act, I have my doubts. Was the guy in the process of molesting the child or not?

I would have done the same and damn the consequences.

Why do I have an ‘uncomfortable feeling’ about that name?

Heather McMinn District Attorney for Guadalupe, Gonzales and Lavaca Counties

Endorsed by:
Arnold Zwicke — Guadalupe County Sheriff
Glen Sachtleben — Gonzales County Sheriff
Micah Harmon — Lavaca County Sheriff

Heather McMinn has been the DA since 2009 and won the GOP primary for that position in May.

GOP-e RINO or Conservative, I’m wondering. Those 3 guys look like Conservatives, but looks alone can be deceiving. I’ll wait to see how she plays-it-out, legally. I hope I’m wrong, the GJ refuses to indict, and he walks, quickly. The father deserves a *medal* for killing that POS molester, IMO.

Correct. They are protecting political correctness.

That is possible.

And I read elsewhere that she was sued for another action related to the death of a child. Jury found her not guilty, but she probably does not want that mess again.

The headline should read “....dad who allegedly beat child molestor” instead of “.....dad who beat alledged child molestor”.

I know nothing about them either, but I suspect they/she are playing it safe and hoping to diffuse any claims of legal leniency. There is much we don't know yet such as what the medical examination contains of the girl or deceased. I personally don't see a railroad job, but I don't know that either.

I hope they find the two were fighting and one major blow killed the perp. It would be bothersome if the dad knocked him unconscious and then kept pummeling him until he died.

From what I have read, NO.

I restate: I have total confidence that the Texas Ranger investigation will reveal the facts in the case.

And, a Nobel Peace Prize. He’s certainly more deserving than that loser occupying the WH.

I agree.

Law enforcement in Texas is generally pretty sane. Especially in rural areas of TX.

The case has taken on a national interest because of the coverage. She is probably acting defensively as you suggested.

A lot we don’t know at this point that at some time we’ll hopefully know. The medical examination of the girl and deceased will provide some answers.

In my opinion, it would make no difference.

If he was molesting the child and the father saw it, I cannot see a grand jury true billing the father under any circumstances. I am not totally sure he only used his hands. That has gone unsaid. One article mentioned hitting him on top of the head.
