Two law enforcement officers fired a total of 33 rounds at an armed man who had threatened suicide Sunday, striking him with four or five shots, according to the Washington County Sheriff's Office. James Jacob Jardina, 45, who had addresses in Myersville and Smithsburg, remained hospitalized in critical condition Tuesday night at R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore.
Jardina was shot when he pointed a handgun at a Washington County sheriff's deputy and a Maryland Department of Natural Resources Police officer at a park-and-ride off Md. 66 near Boonsboro, the sheriff's office said in a news release. Responding to a call about Jardina, who had called his wife threatening suicide, the officers found him in the lot, the sheriff's office said. After starting to pull away, Jardina got out of his truck and approached the deputy and the DNR officer with a 9 mm handgun.

I remember a family who had a mentally ill son threatening their other children. They decided that rather than handling things themselves - the boys in blue would use their magic blue powers to make the bad situation go away. The blue magic killed their son and they were upset - but really - what did they expect?
It worked. They kept him from shooting himself.
They had to kill him in order to save him.....like in the villages of Viet Nam.

Here in Maryland, I thought we were best known for corruption. But maybe we're making a move on the crazy LEO market too. It's a growth year, no doubt about that.

As someone who comes from a family of Hollywood comedy writers, I can tell you that having a sense of humor is the least important thing in writing a sentence “funny.” Comedy writers are the gloomiest gusses in the world. I think that qualifies as a "munitions dump."
The average cop sucks at target shooting compared to the average concealed carry citizen. CCWs shoot far less rounds and hit their target far more often than an officer does. I still love that story where two cops and a criminal, in a squad car, fired over thirty rounds while all in the car, nobody hit.
