Boehner: If Supreme Court strikes down health care law, ‘there will be no spiking of the ball’
Yahoo News ^ | 6-21-12 | Chris Moody

The Supreme Court is expected to rule on the constitutionality of President Barack Obama's health care law within the next week, and House Speaker John Boehner has issued a pre-emptive warning to fellow House Republicans if parts of the law are struck down: Forget about celebrating.

In a memo sent to his entire caucus Friday, Boehner warned members not to gloat over what most Republicans would see as a victory.

"[I]f the Court strikes down all or part of the president's health care law, there will be no spiking of the ball," Boehner wrote in the memo. "Republicans are focused on the economy—and under President Obama's policies, our economy is struggling. We will not celebrate at a time when millions of our fellow Americans remain out of work, the national debt has exceeded the size of our nation's economy, health costs continue to rise, and small businesses are struggling to hire."

If the Court strikes only the Individual Mandate, then the Left has won because buried in the legislation under Section Title IX are Reveue Provisions which will manifest as massive taxes and will tax arbitrarily Employee Sponsored Health Plans and myriad other taxes.

The Left always wanted a massive tax increase and if Obamacare is left standing in part, the Left will get what it always wanted from the beginning.

Whatever, Boehner! The whole country should celebrate such a major victory in the fight for liberty and the Constitution. The overturning of Obamacare will be a victory America! The 4th of July will take on special meaning this year!

Also, the healthcare law is a major part of the current economic problems. Who is advising this schmuck? Boehner needs to go. He is not the right guy to lead House Republicans in the fight for America.

Oh really,
I was in DC the day before the vote with the Tea Party. You know, When the media made up all the BS about people spitting on the Black Caucus.
It was a long exhausting drive back to Florida.

The next day we had to endure the spectacle of that grinning imbecile Pelosi walking to the Capital with that hammer in her hand giggling like a mindless freak!

If God willing it is struck down you can cry Mr.Speaker but I will be unashamedly happy!

Obama has high personal approval numbers, which probably has something to do with it.

Considering how well Obama has punked the Republicans, spiking the ball now would be like doing after a touchdown which got your score to 14-56. It isn't time to spike. It's time for an onside kick to try to get another touchdown.

Save the spikes for November if we win.

Boehner reminds me a Lott of somebody, but I can't remember his name.

What a putz.

No “spiking of the ball”?

Of course not. What we should do is have a “Tim-Tebow-like” prayer of thanksgiving under the goal post.

(How do you spell “Tebow,” anyway?)

"Boehner: If Supreme Court strikes down health care law, ‘there will be no spiking of the ball’"

Actually IF it does get struck down I am going to be "spiking the ball" for days on end. I don't care what Republican Congress Critters do in reaction.

I think one of the Republicans should replace his gavel with one twice the size of the one Nancy “Mayor of Planet Stupid” Pelosi was flaunting in our faces.

Ok, I’ll settle for a really big swinging of that mallet Pelosi carried up the Capitol steps.

Target...people’s choice, 3 swings for a dollar.

Boehner is right on this. The marginalized will see this as the Republicans taking away their access to healthcare. “Spiking the ball” will backfire on the Republicans in November if we look like we’re gloating.

You could not be more correct. Do nothing that might energize their despondent base. If anything, everybody ought to be humbled by the immense task of doing a health care bill the right way, the market way, while cutting costs. Huge undertaking.

Bonehead is a sissy afraid that if he does celebrate the big mean liberal bullies might take his lunch money, that, and he is secretly for ObamaCare.

Me? I’ll spike that football so damned hard it will bounce from here to there and knock his FReeping head off!

Absolutely. “Spiking the ball” is more than just gloating because it shows Obama and his minions on the left how much the American people abhoar his intrusive, oppressive, unconstitutional, and unbelievably expensive health care mandate. Spiking the ball is especially called for in this situation because it demonstrates the will of the American voter to follow through in massive opposition to the tyrannical over-reaching of the executive branch.

Sounds much more like a working class community's football coach.

He worked as a janitor to put himself through college.

He's using some basic logic here ~ the objective is to do right for America, not waste our time messing with the Democrats. Let the voters kick them out. Much celebration will lead to their getting sympathy votes.

“Elected officials, though, have to at least try to be adult about these things”

It’s not very adult to let one part of their lives bring down everything else. Sounds more like an angsty teen. Seriously, anyone who says, “We will not celebrate at a time when millions of our fellow Americans remain out of work, the national debt has exceeded the size of our nation’s economy, health costs continue to rise, and small businesses are struggling to hire” is either playing politics—transparent and stupid politics—or is clinically depressed and needs medication.
