Allen West questions Romney team

Rep. Allen West suggested late Monday that Mitt Romney re-evaluate his campaign advisers, hours after top Romney aide Eric Fehrnstrom said on TV that the individual mandate of President Barack Obama’s health care law is not a tax.

“It’s a tax,” the Florida Republican told Greta Van Susteren of Fox News. “I think that the governor probably needs to look at who he has within his circle of advisers, and probably get … them to provide the right type of counsel and advice.”

I find it mildly amusing that anyone actually thinks that milquetoast Romney is inclined to offer a stiff fight on this, or anything else.

If West says it is a tax, then he is disagreeing with Scalia, Kennedy, Thomas, and Alito."

You are partly right. He is disagreeing with the dissenters. Here is what they said: "The joint dissenters argue that we cannot uphold §5000A as a tax because Congress did not “frame” it as such. Post, at 17. In effect, they contend that even if the Constitution permits Congress to do exactly what we interpret this statute to do, the law must be struck down because Congress used the wrong labels."

The problem is that it is now, officially a tax. It has been named as such by judicial fiat in the majority opinion. Roberts (and his liberal cohorts) went way outside the lines of even judicial activism to label it a tax (despite the fact that Congress failed to do so) and therefore find it constitutional.

So West is right, too. It is a tax. And the only reason Romney and his aides cannot bring themselves to utter the word is because it negatively reflects on Romney's own trip down the road to socialized medicine.

But call it what you want. Tax or not, healthcare is a non-starter for Romney's campaign. He does not have the cojones to admit he was wrong. And all the bluster about repealing it on the first day of his presidency is just that, bluster. He would not have the power alone, and it is becoming clear that he will not have the support in the Senate either, as McConnell continues to weasel his way out of fighting to repeal.

You are half right.

The only message coming from the GOP needs to be "Repeal."

I can accept that.

I am not going to argue about socialism, I agree. The free market approach is the portability across Statelines.

Once again, I agree completely.

The only fight in him is the one he has with conservatives and even then its conducted through surrogates.

Who should we support as an alternative to Obama?

Write in Mickey Mouse...That would be better than going through a Romney Presidency that will be a bigger disaster than either Bush Presidency and lead to a Democratic congress and Democratic President. We're screwed for another eight years if Romney is elected.

You can't advance conservatism by voting for liberal Republicans. Liberal Republicans, duh, advancement liberalism. Then, Democrats take over and advance more liberalism. Wash. Rinse. Repeat.

After two failed Bush Presidency, you'd think more conservatives would catch on. Not enough have.

I have serious doubts about this idiot that I am forced to vote for.

Why on earth would you vote for a man that is going to betray you and conservatives when he gets into office? That makes NO sense. And, yes, eight years of someone more liberal and untrustworthy than George W. Bush IS worse that four more years of Obama. Worse because his election will result in Democrats taking over Congress and taking the White House back. Going through a repeat of what happened in 2006 and 2008 is a lot worse than four years of a lame-duck President facing a backlash from voters.

The mentality that electing RINOs make things better has to stop if there is to be any hope of the nation.

Outside of Mr. West, the GOP has no idea what has happened.

It isn’t a tax, or a penalty, it is quite simply

The murder of freedom.

We are all slaves.

That is what happened.

Calling it a tax allows for reconciliation to reverse it. A “penalty” is not reversible through reconciliation. My understanding.

Team Romney waged a drawn out attack on Gov. Palin on the eve of Election 2008 for the One.

As it stands now, one of two men in this world is going to be POTUS January 20th., 2013

Who do you prefer?

There will be no repeal. McConnell made that clear today.

Romney has been silent on repeal, but for saying he will “act” on repeal. Acting for repeal, and voting to repeal have nothing to do with actually repealing the law.

We need to hear the escape words.

It was Rupert Murdoch yesterday who first lost interest in Romney’s chances against Obamamao, for lack of sound and fury, and in need of pros on his campaign team.

Romney has been missing in action on all the landmark judicial decisions, etc.

We need to stop arguing about the tax/penalty question.

It’s nothing but a distraction.

The main point is that for some unfathomable reason, Roberts decided to uphold the law.

West should concentrate now on helping Romney get elected, not sniping at his campaign.

It’s puzzling to me why we, on this conservative forum, root around for everything negative about Romney when we should be galvanizing support for him.

He’s done nothing wrong in this campaign.

Tax or fee, the Obamacare bill must be defeated and Obama certainly won’t do it.

Romney's team needs to seize the moment for sounding a clear trumpet on behalf of freedom for individuals

Dream on -- I'm in MA, and AFAIK Romney has never remotely come out on the side of individual freedom. He's a manager and he intends to manage!

I am really ticked off at Romney & Company. Problem is, I have to vote for him. He is just a carbon copy of John McCain, weak from head to toe against America destroyer, Barack Hussein Obama!!! Obama, IMHO needs be be attacked and destroyed every single day. He is not a nice fellow. He is an enemy of the state, our United States of America. He is the Devil, he is Hitler II.

The Republican Convention is not until August 27. We have time to organize a challenge on the convention floor. Palin/West 2012.
