American Twilight - The lamps of liberty are going out
The National Review Online | July 7, 2012 | Mark Steyn

Posted on 07/07/2012 8:46:03 AM PDT by Cincinatus' Wife

..................In recent years, speaking to audiences hither and yon, I’m wont to say something on the lines of “The lamps are going out on liberty all over the world.” It’s my update on a famous observation by Edward Grey, British foreign secretary on the eve of the Great War. In August 1914, Sir Edward stood at his window in the summer dusk, and said, “The lamps are going out all over Europe.” He was speaking metaphorically. After all, his remark was prompted by the sight of London’s lamplighters going about their evening routine lighting the lamps in Whitehall. Metaphorically speaking, the lights of liberty were certainly dimmed by Roberts’s hideously convoluted Supreme Court decision: I don’t see why I should be fined $695 for declining to participate in an overpriced and dysfunctional “insurance” “market.”

But that’s a philosophical argument, and most folks just want to get on with their lives. And in that sense last week’s power outages are more relevant to where the U.S. is headed than what passes for John Roberts’s thinking in his Obamacare opinion. It was a reminder, as if you needed one, that in the American twilight the lights will be going out literally. Last week, as the East Coast was fading to black, the West Coast was sinking deeper into the red: Stockton, Calif., became the largest U.S. city to date to file for bankruptcy. America is seizing up before our eyes, and the action necessary to reverse the sclerosis is stymied at every turn by rapacious unions, government micro-regulators, dependency-spreading social engineers, and crony capitalists who know how to weave their way through the bureaucracy...........

Yup. They cannot legitimately legislate us into slavery and call it Constitution. We know better. But our numbers are dwindling. It is now or never.

The Soviet Union fell because of external pressure. If the US falls to the marxists, there will be no external pressure on any of the major powers to force them to allow freedom to their citizens. We need to make a stand here.

The lamps of liberty may be going out, but watch for the muzzle flashes.

“The vulture are just about outnumbering the people who created the golden goose.”

###

In a nutshell.

The problem is not the RaceMarxist and his band of talentless Commie Ivy League lawyers, it is the near 50% of Americans who benefit from big government.

Look not just at the Federal government behemoth folks, but at the satisfied, overpaid parasites infesting your local school district, fire departments, and local and state government.

I doubt that a new Revolution is coming.. half the people in this country are good with America`s decline.

They won't be for long when that decline hits them personally, or the Timber Rattler is tread on one too many times.

Regarding the latter, WHO will be our George Washington, John Addams, and Thomas Jefferson, and be the first to put his balls on the line?

Sarah Palin or Allen West.

“Sarah Palin or Allen West.”

Along with Michelle Bachmann (remember her?) and precious few others, yes those two seem most fearless, in the face of the ongoing destruction at the hands of the cool black guy paper cut-out, foisted on us by the Bolsheviks.

However, I doin’t understand West’s needs to be a member of the openly racist CBC.

The timber rattler being stomped on won`t drive the shiftless to action, but a cessation of their benefits might. Americans aren`t quite as motivated about freedom as we know it anymore. “freedom” has been redefined as the freedom to grab as much pie as possible and run for the nearest corner.

Sorry.. not having much optimism about the future now.

Their attention has been diverted by the “freedom” to be as depraved as possible, true freedom of self-determination and the responsibility for ones self which that entails is no longer comprehensible.

Oh, and I agree with you regarding not having much optimism for the future. Too many are invested in their “victimhood” and the free ride, the rest are invested in forcing everyone to validate their perversion because they think that will mitigate the guilt they still feel when they can’t avoid the truth on a sleepless night. My only optimism is in that this was foretold in God’s Word, which also tells how the story ends-God and His people win.

Long overdue.

Well, it's time to quit crying about it, and let that golden goose pull her piece and start dropping those damned vultures left and right -- a huge hecatomb of vultures. And let the coyotes and wild pigs and feral dogs eat the vultures, and piss on 'em. Their tough luck. Wrong goose.

The Gadsden Militia flag is flying outside my front door right now, topped by a Betsy Ross.

What the legend means is a polite, 18th-century version of "If you step on me, you stupid ************, you will wish you had tried to **** Godzilla instead!"

Or words to that effect. Sorta.
