Obama and Romney: Character Shows
The American Thinker ^ | 7-9-12 | Karin McQuillan

Posted on 07/09/2012 6:19:23 AM PDT by afraidfortherepublic

Character is consistent. Voters say moral character is one of the most important things they look for in choosing the president. The character of a public figure can be hard to discern amidst a fog of self-advertising, hype, and the distorting effects of TV.

~snip~

An unusual personal story gives us insight into Mitt Romney. It is 1996. Mitt Romney is the head of Bain Capital in Boston. One of his employees comes to him, utterly distraught. His 14-year-old daughter snuck out of the house to go to a rave in New York and has been missing for three days. One of her teen friends said he gave her ecstasy and that he last saw her partying under a bridge.

Did Romney offer sympathy and hope? Write a check for a private detective? Wait for the government to solve it? No -- he took responsibility. He took action. He shut down the firm and brought all the employees to New York. For 48 hours, they scoured the streets, going everywhere, asking teenagers if they'd seen the missing girl. Romney called on business associates to send more people to help until they numbered 200. He printed 300,000 fliers and got Duane Reade, one of Bain's success stories, to put fliers in every shopper's bag in their 52 stores. Romney set up a hotline. A broken-off phone call was traced; the girl was discovered in the basement of a house in New Jersey and reunited with her family.

~snip~

Romney shows the missing girl's photo to a teenage girl on the street. She says to him, "No, I haven't seen her, but you're not the first person who came up and asked if I'd seen her. I wish my parents cared enough about me, to do something like this for me."

The second half of this article is about what Obama does for his destitute relatives in Africa -- NOTHING.

FTA: That is why personal stories about Romney and Obama, before they were candidates, are crucial. Voters want to understand what kind of man they are electing.

How sad is this?

That is a nice story. Very few people on this forum need to be convinced that Romney is clearly superior to Obama. However these stories of Romney having off shore bank accounts in Switzerland and the Cayman Islands are very troublesome. Already the Democrats are producing and airing attack ads. Unless Romney has a credible and prompt explanation his candidacy will be severely damaged. Many voters ,especially in critical swing states, will not vote for a millionaire who hid his assets to avoid taxes. The story has “legs”. Romney may be forced to withdraw and allow the Republican convention to select a candidate. The country may not survive four more years of the Obama clown parade.

What about the other girls who go missing ???

Has Willie Mitty gone out looking for them ???

1. The girl was from a Mormon family..

2. Willie wasnt the only one out looking for her

3. The story has been enlarged a lot with the telling

You may have missed that this story has been posted dozens of times.
The attempt to make Romney some kind of savior here is disgusting.
Did he participate in looking for the run away girl, absolutely, however he was just one of many and the girl returned on her own.
Find the original story not the PR story, you may learn something.
This story as presented is as trumped up as Romney raising from the dead in France when he was in a car accident.

No good deed goes unpunished, nor disrespected. I guess it only counts if he had looked for a Catholic girl!

I guess we should all just throw ourselves into the Obama camp and take our punishment for the next 4 years. sarc/off

As bad as Obama is and has been, you can not find one American whose job he eliminated AND personally profited from the firing. There are enough Willard job casualties that the Dems can run hundreds of personal stories each day between now and the election, all telling their story how they were outsourced, all the while that Romney made hundreds of Millions of dollars off their misery.

American voters aren’t real savvy on the intricacies of economics, but everyone knows someone that is unemployed today, and few are willing to vote for someone labeled a job killer, completer with names and faces to match up with the misery.

If we don’t end up with a brokered convention and kick Willard to the curb, what we will see is the most expensive campaign in world history, and Obama coming out on top.

Your Wee Willie Mitty missed Vietnam...

He dodged the draft and fled to France

No way did Romney help someone in need. I have heard over and over here on FR how he is the devil incarnate.

Sorry if you think this is a repeat. I had not read it before, and it did not come up on the FR search. Did you read the whole thing? There is much more there than was allowed by our "linking" rules.

Ms McQuillan makes her point at the end: Romney is an entirely different sort of man. He was raised in a stable, loving family. He lives within circles upon circles of warm, committed relationships -- family, church, community, work, public service. His impulse is to help and to rescue -- a friend's missing daughter, our country's bright future.

Which man do you trust with our country?

I wondered how many posts it would be before the people who are literally killing Free Republic would come on to make nasty comments and ruin the good feeling from this wonderful story.

Well, it was two posts.

I read no more.

Where did Obama serve his military service?

But, I think it is useless talking to you, or svcw, or any of the other short-sighted Mitt haters on this board. I think I’ll start keeping a list because I’ll know whom to blame when this country is lost to the Socialists and Marxists after Obumbum is re-elected because all of the Mitt-haters stayed home.

Members of my family have fought in all of the wars waged on this continent since 1607. I’ll be embarrassed to meet them on the “other side” and admit that my generation could not keep the Republic. That the great experiment was lost in a tide of Mormon hatred.

Really! I guess keeping people out of work is different. As far as profiting how about the Billions his supporters are making. How about denying the Keystone pipepline so Buffett can make money through his railroad company.

How about all the gubmint regulations putting people out of work. And yes he is profiting or how else do you explain his millionaire bank account since becoming president.

I am no Romney fan but your hatred is unbelievable. Enjoy 4 more years of this regime....

This story is repeated so often because it's about the only one that show Mitt as a caring person.

Someone on his campaign needs to invent a few more particuarly stories about a non-mormon black or hispanic to offset the stories about the folks that lost their jobs to his Bain Capital corporate raiding.
