Egypt's Government Planning to Destroy the Great Pyramids?

An online magazine has offered translations to Arabic news sources that purportedly indicate that Egypt's Salafi party has come forth with plans to demolish Egypt's Great Pyramids in an effort to bring down what it calls "symbols of paganism."

Bahrain's "Sheikh of Sunni Sheikhs" and President of National Unity, Abd al-Latif al-Mahmoud, has reportedly urged Egypt's new president, Muhammad Morsi, to "destroy the Pyramids and accomplish what Amr bin al-As could not," according to conservative political publication FrontPage Magazine.

Al-Mahmoud's comments relate to Amr bin al-As, a companion of the Islam's founder Muhammad, who invaded Egypt in 641 and began destroying Egyptian artifacts. Some early Muslim writers have noted that Amr bin al-As even destroyed the great Library of Alexandria, which was a hub of knowledge for the ancient world.

Amr bin al-As, however, did not have the means to destroy the massive pyramid structures back then, but the Salafi party now has the technology available to do just that.

"Egypt's Government Planning to Destroy the Great Pyramids?"

The muslims started on this project a long time ago - who do you think pried off the polished limestone outer casing and carted it off to build Cairo?

Not just any wax either.....Muhammed told them Allah commanded they cover it with ear wax.......

They have been collecting it for 1,400 years now and have a Minivan full..

The library at Alexandria comes to mind...think of the texts in that place that are no longer available to us. Must of been a heck of a wienie roast (all beef, of course).

Kind of like the Mayan writings being destroyed and so many other examples of prejudice destroying information out of fear of the unknown or the different.

Without it’s wonders from the ancient world, tourists will find little reason in venturing to Egypt. In the end that may be the determining factor in whether or not the extremists prevail...

Muslims don’t care about tourism. Never have and never will. They look at tourism as an uncontrollable infidel influence on any Muslim that has to interact with them.

Napoleon bony part used the sphynx for target practice of his cannons. He and the muzzies would’ve made a lovable pair.

I thought the druze were a separate religion from islam altogether. From what I understand they’re an esoteric religion and anyone who reveals their secrets is killed.

Does each Pyramid have it’s own “Mummy’s Curse”, or is there only one, for all of the Pyramids?

So sad. Glad I went there over 10 years ago, I don’t think I would want to go now.

Sufi tend to be introspective and spiritually focused, not rabid actors-out. Which is viewed by the mad jihadists as being unfaithful.

Undoubtedly this is a trail balloon to see if the “international Community” will pony up billions of dollars for the so-called “preservation” of the pyramids.

Instead, I suggest the international community set up a pay per view to see the day when they blow them up. Artillery and tank shellings would be pretty good for viewership.

Remember the good ol’ days when Washington Redskins running back John Riggins peered down the front of the wife of the Egyptian Ambassador at a White House reception and talked about how much he wished he could explore the pyramids?

And everyone laughed about it.

I know I damn sure did.
