A third of the world's adults are physically inactive, and the couch potato lifestyle kills about five million people every year, experts said in the medical journal The Lancet on Wednesday.

"Roughly three of every 10 individuals aged 15 years or older -- about 1.5 billion people -- do not reach present physical activity recommendations," they said in a report that described the problem as a "pandemic."

The picture for adolescents is even more worrying, with four out of five 13- to 15-year-olds not moving enough, it said.

Physical inactivity was described for the study as failing to do 30 minutes of moderate physical activity five times a week, 20 minutes of vigorous activity three times a week, or a combination of the two.

Inactivity increases with age, is higher in women than in men, and more prevalent in high-income countries, the researchers found.

That must be it. How wise you are.

They think it’s bad now, they ain’t seen nothing yet. Just wait until the Xbox generation gets older. They can sit inactively now for days moving nothing but their 2 thumbs.

Well, the precedent got set. Failure to engage in an activity is now taxable.

Soon, we shall see this:

Now that they have Obamacare, these nanny staters have the tool to require that all citizens excercise regularly. That’ll take care of this latest endemic that will cause health care expenditures to rise...

Yep, we will require you to exercise because we now OWN your physical being. If you don’t then tell us about the view you have of the barrel of our government guns!

I am SURE somewhere in that > 2000 page ObamaCare nobody read, it is already covered.

That we are all required to earn credits for physical activity, or else.

Remember when we would see pictures like this and think, WOW, those folks sure think differently than us! That kind of stuff could never happen here! Now, we can see that they probably were forced to behave the way they did, as we will soon, through coercion by an out of control bunch of busybody Communists!

I don’t believe this any more than I believe the liberal ‘global warming’ crap. Those who exercised by running are all getting their knees replaced, the folks into sailboat racing look 20 years older than they are, the yoyo dieters have courted memory loss... Sorry - I don’t believe liberal ‘experts’ anymore.

I recently completed a program called GSP Rushfit put out by MMA Champ Georges St piere that you can do at home and lost fat and got in amazing shape in 8 weeks.

If anyone is interested in those home workout plans, this thing really kicked my butt but worked.

SEC. 4004 ø42 U.S.C. 300u–12¿. EDUCATION AND OUTREACH CAMPAIGN REGARDING PREVENTIVE BENEFITS.

(c) MEDIACAMPAIGN.—

(1) IN GENERAL.—Not later than 1 year after the date of enactment of this Act, the Secretary, acting through the Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, shall establish and implement a national science-based media campaign on health promotion and disease prevention.

(2) REQUIREMENT OF CAMPAIGN.—The campaign implemented under paragraph (1)—
(A) shall be designed to address proper nutrition, regular exercise, smoking cessation, obesity reduction, the 5 leading disease killers in the United States, and secondary prevention through disease screening promotion;
(B) shall be carried out through competitively bid contracts awarded to entities providing for the professional production and design of such campaign;
(C) may include the use of television, radio, Internet, and other commercial marketing venues and may be targeted to specific age groups based on peer-reviewed social research;
(D) shall not be duplicative of any other Federal efforts relating to health promotion and disease prevention; and
(E) may include the use of humor and nationally recognized positive role models.

So there will be big money in creating the propaganda. But wait! There is more... There will be incentives!

SEC. 4108 ø42 U.S.C. 1396a note¿. INCENTIVES FOR PREVENTION OF CHRONIC DISEASES IN MEDICAID.

(a) INITIATIVES.—

(1) ESTABLISHMENT.—

(A) IN GENERAL.—The Secretary shall award grants to States to carry out initiatives to provide incentives to Medicaid beneficiaries who—
(i) successfully participate in a program described in paragraph (3); and
(ii) upon completion of such participation, demonstrate changes in health risk and outcomes, including the adoption and maintenance of healthy behaviors by meeting specific targets (as described in subsection (c)(2)).
(B) PURPOSE.—The purpose of the initiatives under this section is to test approaches that may encourage behavior modification and determine scalable solutions.

(snip)

(A) IN GENERAL.—A program described in this paragraph is a comprehensive, evidence-based, widely available, and easily accessible program, proposed by the State and approved by the Secretary, that is designed and uniquely suited to address the needs of Medicaid beneficiaries and has demonstrated success in helping individuals achieve one or more of the following:

(i) Ceasing use of tobacco products.
(ii) Controlling or reducing their weight.
(iii) Lowering their cholesterol.
(iv) Lowering their blood pressure.
(v) Avoiding the onset of diabetes or, in the case of a diabetic, improving the management of that condition.

We all know how the FedMob applies incentives.
