NBCUniversal chieftain Steve Burke shocked insiders with his pick to lead the company’s far-flung news operations, passing over several veterans for the top job.
Burke tapped NBCU business exec Patricia Fili-Krushel — who hasn’t been involved in a network news operation for years — as chairman of a newly created division that includes NBC News, MSNBC and CNBC.
Burke’s decision to appoint Fili-Krushell, a longtime confidante, was described by network news insiders as “crazy” and “bizarre” given her lack of news credentials.
“The timing sucks,” said one person close to NBC’s news division. “[Burke] didn’t go out and hire a news person, he put an administration person in charge.”
The extra layer of management was viewed as bad for NBC News head Steve Capus and CNBC chief Mark Hoffman, who previously reported directly to Burke. MSNBC President Phil Griffin continues to report to Capus, a spokeswoman said.

This was a brilliant appointment — someone who has not been subject to the blatant liberal agenda of the MSM newsroom. As a business editor she may figure out that biased reporting is the death knell of network news. With any luck her next job will be with the NY Slimes.
Her job is to clean house and eliminate newsroom positions while also sending a message to the heads of NBC News, CNBC and MSNBC that they’ll be working for a girl from now on. This is just too good.

P.S. Her job isn’t to get rid of bias. It’s to cut bodies and get rid of top executives that don’t play well with each other. It’s all about cost-cutting and reducing headaches for the top executives at Comcast.

I had a cold caller trying to sell me a Comcast subscription door to door. I not so politely dismissed them from my property telling them that I will NEVER use Comcast, as their CEO is an 0bama supporter (hosting lavish fundraisers in the Phila. area). I don’t think they’ll be back.
It may not be much but I vote with my (ever dwindling) wallet.
aThe best news division president in the history of CBS was Richard Salant, who served as corporate counsel before taking over the news division in 1961. The journalistic elitists howled and in 1964, Edward R. Murrow’s former producer, Fred Friendly, was appointed to the top job.
Friendly was an absolute disaster; he lasted only two years, and Salant returned from another senior executive post to lead the news division a second time. He remained president until his retirement in 1979, and was widely applauded for his exacting standards and insistence that all news division employees abide by a strict ethics code. Needless to say it’s all been downhill at CBS since Mr. Salant left. You don’t need to be a journalist to run a news division; Roger Ailes has never worked as reporter, but he’s one of the greatest news execs in the history of television.
Personally, I think Comcast is embarrassed by some of the antics at NBC News—particularly at MSNBC—and they want an adult in charge. BTW, the changes at NBC News were inevitable; without Microsoft to share the operating costs, the network will have to watch the bottom line even more carefully.
As, opposed, to those with news credentials, who, have worked out so well.
I would like to see them gone by Halloween.

I’d love to get a look at that “ethics code,” particularly the rule about doing everything you can to make sure your own country loses a war.
It’s not about draining the cesspool of bias. It’s about cutting 20-30% of the headcount and forcing the different news channels to collaborate and share resources. The liberal bias will stay.
I think you are correct. The reason comcast bought NBC was to enhance the liberal propaganda, not curtail it.
