Poor Corn Crop Will Have Major Impact on Ethanol Market

[Snip]...I have long felt that one of the biggest threats to the U.S. ethanol industry is a major drought/crop failure in the heart of corn country. This year we may be experiencing such an event. Recent reports indicate that what had been expected to be a record crop of corn has been downgraded such that only 40% of the corn crop is being classified as in good or excellent condition. This is down 48% versus last week and 69% versus a year ago.

Our local ethanol plant uses 100,000 bushels per day from what I’ve heard, and the ethanol plants right now are competing with each other for corn stocks. They’re facing possible layoffs.

I personally would LOVE to run straight gas with no corn in it. I just can’t get it around here.

Just to long as it doesn’t drive up the cost of booze.

I'm making corn whiskey as we speak.

No shortage of white corn here in NJ. Just got to watch out for the revenoors.

Who says they're going to stop growing it?

There may be plenty of stations claiming to be ethanol free, but in Missouri, the regular gasoline is required by law to contain ethanol. Premium is exempt from this requirement.
