They'd do the same thing Japan wanted to do during WWII, but didn't dare because we WERE armed.
An unarmed society is an easy target. Too many people think a spineless politician will be standing at their door to save them if America were ever attacked. They forget how fast the jelly spines ran and hid in the safety of their bunkers during 9/11.
If Americans think the "lawmakers" are going to be around to protect them if times get hard, they'd better think again. They're going to be on their planes and out of the country within minutes of a major threat. You'll be on your own, Jack.
