Mayo Clinic Fires Doctor Advocating Female Genital Mutilation

The Mayo Clinic has fired one of their doctors for advocating female genital mutilation. Dr. Hatem Elhagaly, left, a Muslim pediatrician, was dismissed from the top-notch clinic for promoting a practice that is illegal in America but, in his words, "honors Islam."
The barbaric practice has no health benefits to women. On the contrary, in addition to the emotional and psychological trauma of the procedure, mutilation of female genitals can cause severe bleeding, urinary problems, painful mentruation, cysts, complication in childbirth, sterility and death.
In a statement released announcing Elhagaly's dismissal, the Mayo Clinic wrote, "Female circumcision in children, referred to as female genital mutilation in U.S. legal statutes, is a felony-level child abuse crime. Mayo Clinic strongly opposes the procedure and it has never been performed at any Mayo Clinic facility."
An internet blog devoted to cutting-edge medical practices and treatments says that Elhagaly "justifies this position by referring repeatedly to the words of classical Islamic scholars from the four schools of mainstream Sunni Islamic thought, all of which attest to FGM's legitimacy under Islam. He also refers to the words of the Prophet Muhammad himself, who reportedly counselled people in his day on how to perform FGM in a way that would be 'more beautiful to behold and better for [the woman's] husband.' "

On a recent visit to Mayo, my brother was astounded by the number of Muslims in the various buildings. This guy was no doubt the “keeper of the tradition” and made major dollars for his work.

I'm tempted to think that I played a very,very small role in this victory.I read about that knuckledragger here...a few months back.Having a fair knowledge of the medical biz (20 years working for a large hospital) I knew who to call and what to say in such a situation so I called the Mayo Clinic and the Minnesota Physician Licensing Board to demand that he be stripped of his credentials.Mayo told me that they were familiar with the matter and was studying it.So,success is the result,no doubt,of many many people's work.
God knows we have enough psychopaths with medical degrees plying their dirty trade in abortion mills...we don't need additional ones maiming women and girls in other ways as well.
Actually it started with Clinton. He signed some executive order, I think, that encouraged more immigration from 3rd world countries, and less from civilized nations.
Bush helped things along by bringing in thousands of Muslim refugees from the wars, and now businesses are “importing” Muslims to work in packing plants, etc. There are many guilty parties and nobody doing anything to stem the tide.
Unless any trail that results from such a suit features a 100% moslem male jury that psychopath wouldn't stand a chance.You can bet your boots that Mayo consulted every lawyer within 100 miles on this one before acting.I'll wager that they consulted one or two PR types as well.

Now I know why the Mayo Clinic fired this doctor, but why did they hire him? After reading this swill, I think some heads should roll in Mayo’s hiring and firing department. There’s no way on earth this doctor could have intelligently and compassionately treated female patients. Does Mayo Clinic feel the same way about women? Makes you wonder.

I am Glad Mayo fired this yahoo, but I am concerned they hired him in the first place.
Stop bringing facts into the issue. This practice is common among non-Muslims in countries where it is practiced. For instance, almost universal among Christian Copts in Egypt.
Also, lumping all FGM into one category is wildly misleading. Some variants are no more damaging, or even less, than male circumcision, while others are extreme and health and life threatening.
Practice should be fought, but facts should be used in the fight, not hyperbole.
Colonial attempts to prohibit FGM were a primary contributor to the Kikuyu independence movement in the 1930s, what later turned into Mau-Mau.
And the Kikuyu weren’t (and aren’t) Muslim.

Mayo Clinic is clearly one of the finest hospitals in the world so they're sure to get their share of potentates.I worked for years in a famous Boston hospital and it was SRO for Saudi royalty there.They'd take over an entire floor and have the staff waiting on them hand and foot.We used to hear stories from the junior doctors (interns and residents) who were assigned to babysit them.Disgraceful doesn't even begin to describe those stories.
That wiki article basically says what I just said. Here’s a hint for ya...”present” means pretty damn rare. Basically only the kurds and the fanatics in the arabian peninsula.
I'm no expert on such matters but given the circumstances as *I* understand them that would be difficult to do for a number of reasons,some legal,some "ethical" and some "PR".
I certainly could be wrong however.
