Its been nearly eight months since the Pentagon sent its largest and most powerful bomb, the Massive Ordnance Penetrator (MOP), back to Boeing for modifications necessary to take out Iranian nuclear facilities, but the Air Force says it's now ready to go.
Jeff Schogol at Defense News reports that Air Force Secretary Michael Donley says that while the MOP bomb continues to be refined and optimized, the Pentagon feels the 30,000 pound piece of ordnance is now sufficient to strike whatever targets the military may have in mind.
While the bomb went back to the drawing board with Pentagon planners considering Iran a potential target, recent developments in Syria offer up alternate possibilities for the MOP's initial mission.

Massive Ordnance Penetrator (MOP).
It is nicknamed "Big BLU".
The Iranians are using a sophisticated form of concrete called UHPC(Ultra High-Performance Concrete), Also called "Smart Concrete."
When the Air Force first received the MOP in 2011, it was unknown if these bombs would be able to penetrate several feet of UHPC.
So the bombs had to back sent back and upgraded.
At 30,000 lbs it could be filled with inert, non-explosive concrete and still make a hell of mess.

.....always had the technology, we never had the balls (in DC) to use it. We had laser guided munitions 45 years ago, but we got real specific where, when, and how.

No matter how deep they may be they have to have entrances/exits - MOP those up. Everything else is buried for years. Then bomb it again.
