The latest from New York’s commissioner of mental hygiene is that maternity wards in New York are going to start locking up their baby formula so as to force new mothers to breast feed their children. This scheme, according to the report in the New York Post, will start in 27 of the city’s 40 hospitals September 3. It’s part of the so-called “Latch on NYC” initiative the mental hygiene commissioner sprung on the city in May. The idea seems to be that New Yorkers elected the mayor to station the commissioner, Dr. Thos. Farley, between each newborn and his mother to make sure she doesn’t use her own best judgment in making her choice of how to feed her baby. Of course, if her choice had been that she’d wanted to abort the baby, the mayor would have hustled Dr. Farley out of the way faster than you could say Margaret Sanger.

Breast milk is arguably superior to formula. And labor is far superior to welfare. Barring medical urgency, what’s the problem? I presume a paying customer is not prohibited from purchasing formula.
I’m sure hospitals charge for formula. Look at your bill— I paid a ton for the Motrin they gave me after my daughter was born! My only pain killer, thank you very much!
I also had to use formula because of a medication I had to start after my daughters birth. My hospital hounded me to breastfeed and use cloth diapers. I had to have my doctor tell the nurses to shut up, I couldn’t breastfeed, and might have chose not to even if I could have. My solution: My sister brought me a half case of the disposable little formula bottles you just put the nipple on and a big package of Pampers. This daughter is an athlete, an honor student, and musician. Formula did not harm her in any way.

Exactly. All the pro-coice bally-hoo and now the government will FORCE women to breast feed.
As stated elsewhere, some women cannot produce sufficient quantities or the right kind of nutritious milk.
Also some of the little biggers have teeth!
Go ahead and kill all the babies you “choose” but by gum you WILL breast feed the ones who survive!
As the victim of childhood sexual abuse, I was not capable of an act that ‘intimate’ and in my twisted mental make up, sexual in nature. One of the nurses at my Georgia hospital my oldest was born tried to berate me into breastfeeding while in labor! “Don’t you love your baby?” she actually said to me when asking ‘breast or bottle?’ from the form.
A nurse’s aid saw my distress and when the ole biddy left, came and said “You just look at that baby with all the love in your heart when you give her that bottle and she will never know the difference.”
Breastfeeding is a beautiful thing, but it isn’t the ONLY way.
My post... I do NOT see BF as sexual, but the female body responds in odd ways to breast stimulation and while a normal woman wouldn’t make a connection, some of us have issues.
But just in general, that’s ridiculous to think it sexual in nature.
A) Some people pay their hospital bills or have insurance. Did I wake up in Canada? How do you get that it’s ‘tax’ bought?
B) It’s samples given by the formula companies.

All his money and he still is that stupid.
Government is inherently evil, corrupt, and inefficient.We need to eliminate 99% of these government agencies like the DEA, EPA, HUD ,IRS, TSA, government schools, dept of energy, and so on. Government at all levels must be reduced. All we need is military , border control, customs, some police , courts and that's it.
These gov agencies just choke and destroy businesses and take away our freedom.

Maybe something’s in the water there in New York such that Bloomberg has a reason to fear feeding infants formula that was made with it. It is certainly driving Bloomberg mad.
Let’s see, in Bloomberg City it’s beyond thinking to warn a mother who is about to “have an abortion” (kill her unborn child) why she might regret that! But they will brow beat mothers who might have a perfectly valid medical reason to formula feed (for your case were you being expected to get a note from your psychiatrist before the nurses would quit nagging you?). If you hug or cradle a baby while it is drinking formula, that baby will be just as happy. In fact dad can do that as well as mom.
