Police are giving you a chance to hand over unwanted guns and ammunition, no questions asked. August 11th is one of several gun amnesty days held around Omaha in 2012 with a goal of getting illegal and unwanted weapons off the streets.
Unwanted or illegal guns and ammunition may be dropped off at a collection point at the Sheet Metal Workers Union Hall at 3333 South 24th Street. Drive-up service will be available.
No compensation will be given for the firearms turned in. However, citizens dropping off firearms will have the peace of mind that one less gun will be available in our community to those who choose to use it to harm others or commit a crime.
This is a publicity stunt, designed to undermine the idea of an armed citizenry, nothing more.
A true American patriot would have to be an effing idiot to deliver weapons into the hands of a union.
...but on your deathbed you will receive total consciousness.
So could a person set up a table just off of their property and offer $25 per gun?
Indeed. It sort of conflicts the the other great Leftist buy back program “Cash for Clunkers”.
It only favor criminals. This is a power grab.
It only favor criminals. This is a power greed grab.
Sigh. In the first place, most of the guns turned in during programs like this are probably not even operable without repair, and second, the people who would actually turn them in are not the type "who [would] choose to use it to harm others or commit a crime".
I'm waiting until after the police destroy their guns and ammunition.
Or, even better, turn them over to the people who bought them.
You guys can keep their Glocks, but I’d dearly love to own the M15 that I trained on in my youth.
I have peace of mind with my guns IN my home thank you.
M15 -> M16.
Sorry about that.

This is probably coming from the POS democrat mayor; who barely squeaked through a recall election and then continued to screw the city, its residents and anyone living around Omaha. There are shootings/murders reported here almost every day and he is probably getting desparate to try to appease the general public. He and his union supporters are corrupt as the day is long. He just recently “proposed” a pay hike for his senior staff while the city is falling deeper into a fiscal craphole. Now the residents of Omaha find out that he already gave them all raises effective as of January. Another criminal democrat POS and I’m glad I live in an adjacent city across the county line.
FUBO & FAD
Obviously the whole thing is a farce but there is a serious aspect: are the weapons checked for connection to crimes i.e. is ballistics testing conducted? Sorry to be cynical but I can’t help thinking that some family members wouldn’t be above turning in Junior’s cheap pistol after it had been used in the commission of a crime.
What better way to dispose of evidence than to give it to the police who will scrap it, even if the disposer doesn’t know it may be ebidence?
Excellent idea! I’m going to make up a sign and put it at the curb: GUN DRIVE. Leave your unwanted guns here. No questions asked. All types of firearms accepted.
As was recently proven, such publicity stunts can be turned upside down in favor of guns.
In this case, I think the best deal would be for a gun dealer to offer “trade-ins”, discounts to get better guns.
Especially, if they did so with the discreet help of a pro gun police department, to run quick checks on the trade ins to determine if they were wanted for any crimes.
So not only good guns to honest people, but arresting individuals trying to “launder” a gun.
Yep. Sounds like a great idea. Donate a gun to a democrat union thug.
“So could a person set up a table just off of their property and offer $25 per gun?”
We did that here in Iowa when they had one of these years ago. We stood outside the building the cops were using to buy back the guns and we would ask everyone entering if they had a gun they were turning in. If they were agreeable (and many were) they would show us the guns they had and we would bid on them or give them $10 to $20 more than the cops were. The cops might not like it but it should be covered under a private sale and not needing a permit or anything.
I watched a lot of really nice guns get bought dirt cheap that day. The cops gave us dirty looks but they couldn’t really say anything. We weren’t breaking any laws.
One guy I saw buy a nice .38 S&W snubby for about $70.00. It looked almost brand new.
We had a few people who refused to deal with us and that’s OK. But the majority stopped and let us make an offer.
It’s a good way to add to your gun safe and not spend a bunch of money.
Or Junior himself since, as I understand it, they'll take the guns, no questions asked. And since they're not tracking who turned in what, there seems little use to me to do balistics checks on them.
