RNC Convention Speakers Feature Rice, Martinez, Haley in Star-Studded Lineup
Townhall.com ^ | August 5, 2012 | Elisabeth Meinecke

Sounds like fun already ... the Tampa Bay Times released the names of some of the speakers slated for the RNC convention in Tampa later this month, and it looks to be a promising lineup. The Times reported that, as of now, it's unclear where these speakers are slotted, and the rest of the lineup--including the keynote speaker--remains unknown. Names so far include conservative powerhouses New Mexico Gov. Susanna Martinez and South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley. Florida Gov. Rick Scott is also speaking.

Here's a portion of the Times report:

Florida Gov. Rick Scott, Sen. John McCain and former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice are among seven headline speakers announced today for the Republican National Convention in Tampa.

The first look at featured speakers also includes South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, Ohio Gov. John Kasich and New Mexico Gov. Susana Martinez.

The keynote speaker and others will be named closer to the Aug. 27-30 event, Republican National Committee chairman Reince Priebus said in announcing the headliners, whom he called "some of our party's brightest stars, who have governed and led effectively and admirably in their respective roles."

So far, the lineup looks off to a fairly good start. Conservatives will definitely be represented well--both socially, with the inclusion of Mike Huckabee, and practically, with competent and current gubernatorial voices like Martinez and Haley--and Rice remains a popular figure in the GOP.

The only one of those seven I would care to hear would be Martinez simply because I know very little about her. I don’t expect to watch any of either convention this year. Too boring and predictable. I will consider it a “victory” of sorts if the VP nod does not go to Condi or Jebbie. Anything else we can tolerate.

Did you not read post#27 and watch the YouTube video in post#79? I suggest you do both and stop whining, because Sarah isn’t and Newt isn’t either. Stop being a crybaby

Is there any evidence she is a conservative, let alone a Republican? “The same can be asked of you.”

Okay since you obviously didn't get my answer let me clarify it for you with this question: Is there any evidence that you are a conservative let alone a Republican. I am curious as to what makes you think she is not?

“Is there any evidence that you are a conservative let alone a Republican.”

You can check out my posting history and draw your own conclusions.

“I am curious as to what makes you think she is not?”

Point me to her policy statements on domestic issues that indicate she is a conservative. I noted a number of such issues in an earlier post to you. Can you tell me where she stands on them?

If not, why do you claim she is a conservative? Do you also think Colin Powell is a conservative?

Unfortunately, to Kaslin, anyone who has
supported Obama (like Romney and Ms. Rice)
are “conservatives”.

In fact, they are not.

He does indeed use the word “conservative” pretty loosely if he considers either Romney or Rice as conservatives. Romney we know about. We’ll see what he can bring to the table about Rice’s conservative bona fides.

If they thought it would bring them one micro-inch closer to within sniffing distance of any real scrap of power or control: CINOs would enthusiastically anoint Elizabeth Warren as a true conservative. ;)

Now this is rich, whether you realize it or not but you bought everything Jay Carney said hook line and sinker.

“White House Quotes Romney in Defense of Health Care”
White House Quotes Romney in Defense of Health Care

It's not every day that you see Jay Carney quoting Republican presidential front-runner Mitt Romney from the White House podium.

But that's what Carney did Thursday as reporters pressed for the president's reaction to the Affordable Care Act heading to the Supreme Court before the 2012 election amid questions about its constitutionality.

Carney's quoting served the dual purpose of defending the president and trying to drive a wedge between Romney and some of his Republican rivals, who have charged that the former Massachusetts governor's health reform law on the state level bears too much of a resemblance to the plan that conservatives derisively call "Obamacare."

"A former governor of Massachusetts just said the other day, 'The idea for a health care plan in Massachusetts was not mine alone,'" Carney said, reading from notes as he continued quoting Romney. "'The Heritage Foundation, a great conservative think tank, helped on that. I'm told that Newt Gingrich, one of the very first people who came up with the idea of an individual mandate, did that years and years ago. It was seen as a conservative idea to say, you know what, people have a responsibility for caring for themselves if they can. We'll help people who can't care for themselves, but if you can care for yourself, you've got to take care of yourself and pay your own bills.'"

Without ever mentioning Romney by name, Carney concluded, "That's the former governor of Massachusetts describing the individual mandate and why it's smart policy, and we certainly agree."
