WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (AP) -- Robert F. Kennedy Jr. told a detective that on the day before his wife hanged herself, she called him to say "everything was her fault."

"She told me that she was sorry for everything. ... She said that I was right about everything," Kennedy said in a statement that was part of a police file released Wednesday.

Kennedy's wife, Mary Richardson Kennedy, hanged herself May 16 in a garage on their Bedford estate. The statement from her husband - son of Sen. Robert Kennedy and nephew of President John Kennedy - was given the next day, the documents show.

Much of the file was blacked out before being released, and it was not clear what Mary Kennedy was referring to by "everything."

When she died, the Kennedys were in the midst of a divorce and custody battle. They have four children.

An autopsy report showed Mary Kennedy had antidepressants in her system.

Her death sparked a battle between Kennedy and his wife's siblings, who tried to take control of her remains and held their own memorial service. Kerry Lawrence, an attorney for the siblings, was on vacation Wednesday and could not be reached for...

Call me cynical for finding his recollection of her comments a little self-serving with a dash of seeking absolution.

There was one single fault she made... she married a Kennedy.

“She said that I was right about everything,” Kennedy said.

Typical of the clan. A Kennedy is always right. A Kennedy is a Kennedy....rotten b@stards!

And what proof does he have that she actually said this?

"She said that I was right about everything"

I'm skeptical that's a phrase that has ever been uttered by a wife about her husband over the entire History of Man.

Even if true, it's just as damning to the Kennedy freak.

she called him to say "everything was her fault."

O really? That's sure sounds like something a terrorized, hopeless, and completely demoralized vacant-shell-of-her-former-self victim of spousal abuse would think.

He probably made it up though to make himself look good. FAIL.

"She told me that she was sorry for everything. ... She said that I was right about everything,"

Gosh, I say that kind of thing all the time, along with agreeing that everything is my fault. However, I don't plan to hang myself ... maybe I'll just take the baby and the credit card and head for the airport. Nyah nyah nyah, I speak Spanish and you don't!

Poor lady. I saw at Walmart the other day that Taylor Swift is seeing a Kennedy. I asked my son where he placed her in the Dead Pool, but he didn't get it.

I hear that Marilyn Monroe and Mary Jo Kopechne made very similar calls to Kennedys just before they died.

This MAY be what he heard...but if she said anything close it was just that she was so beaten down by him that she couldn’t think straight. What a $rick.

The phone call probably went something like this "I just can't bear the thought of a long car ride and I don't think I'm up for flying either;; it kills me to think of it."

Boats, planes, trains, and automobiles.......no it's not a book; it's a list of transportation crashed by Kennedys.

>>>I’m skeptical that’s a phrase that has ever been uttered by a wife about her husband over the entire History of Man. “

Add in “a wife in the middle of a divorce” and the odds boggle the mind..

Been there, “confessed” that.

Still not completely recovered.

Sadly, you’re probably right.

Back then, the *only* thing that kept me defiantly sucking air was the worry about what would happen to my dogs if I were gone.

I sure as hell didn’t want *him* to get hold of them so I kept fighting to stay alive.

So far, so good.

FWIW, to hear the tales he tells when he thinks I won’t hear about it, he’s a saint and I “deserved” every beating.
