Longtime Knoxville abortion clinic closes doors A new Tennessee law requiring abortion doctors to have admitting privileges at local hospitals is being blamed for the closure of a longtime Knoxville abortion provider.

An executive director of the Abortion Care Network confirmed to The Tennessean (http://tnne.ws/S1m8aL ) that the Volunteer Women's Medical Center closed Friday.

The clinic had been operating for 38 years.

These people make me sick. They’re blaming the new law that says a doctor must have privileges for this?

*IF* I were pro-choice (I AM NOT)
and *IF* I were to have an abortion (I WOULD NEVER)

I would *WANT* my doctor to be top-notch.

It really makes me want to vomit that so many young women are being duped into thinking that they’re getting legitimate medical care when so many of these doctors are nothing more than butchers.

I wouldn’t go to a dentist that didn’t have all of the credentials.

It’s good to know that the children in Knoxville will once again get the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. It’s too bad it isn’t like that all over the United States. It now takes more luck than ever to be born an American. That is unless your biological sperm and egg donor units are illegal aliens.

You’d think the doctors they have at these “women’s health centers” would be of such high caliber they could get admitting privileges anywhere they wanted.

Seems perhaps it’s the quality of the abortion doctors, not the law itself.

Good news! College students are among the most likely to abort their babies, and if the immediate option is unavailable, they may decide to give birth - with adoption placement as a possibility - or even better, decide against having sex with that guy to start with.

Nineveh repented and was spared during their generation.....now Knoxville.

It has to start somewhere....a rebuke to darkness.

How many murders were perpetrated there in that length of time?! I’ll bet its hundreds-of-thousands, because it is approaching 60 MILLION nationwide!

What you said - this should be the case everywhere, and the pro-choice people should actually be demanding this loudly to ‘protect the health of the woman’.

Especially poignant given that Planned Parenthood apparently let a woman bleed out and die recently because they waited several hours to send her to a hospital.

A real great day. Knoxville is my hometown and I still live in the area. There are lots of couples wanting to adopt children. Going through the state agency is impossible so private adoption venues are usually used. Abortion denies them even that.

What about the Knoxville Center for Reproductive Health down by the university? Has it closed up shop too?

I’m not sure how Knoxville is “abortion clinic free” when the KCRH is still in business:

Are you talking about the place up on Concord ST between Kingston Pike and Sutherland Ave? I'd say it's only providing birth control at this point if it's even still there.

I avoid the UT area myself except for past visits to the Auditory Clinic at the stadium.

It’s on Clinch Ave. about a block north of the Scottish Rite Temple down near campus. According to their website they provide abortions.

I know where Clinch Ave is but I haven’t been on that stretch of Clinch Ave since working at the 82 Worlds Fair. So I have no idea.

I just had a flood of memories of the 82 World’s Fair. Boy that was a long time ago.

I know someone who interned at the KCRH back in the 1970s, btw. They coached her to never use the word “baby” but instead to only refer to “tissue”. The people who own the KCRH are decent people, but of course very misguided.

A lot's changed that's for sure. The controller to Fountain of The World was underneath the Clinch Ave bridge. Me and another guy I worked with saw our boss looking at it one morning before opening hours. As soon as he looked off we turned it off. He looked at it for a minute then looked away and back on it came LOL. I was part of the maintenance crew.

I used to race against the fire trucks up at old city hall station to the Holiday Inn and the office building attached to it. I had to beat them up to the penthouse of the ofice building to the equipment before they axed it open. Every time the sirens started I headed in that direction just in case.

A lot of people around UT are misguided. You can usually read their post in KNS comments.

Looks like you are right. Abortion clinic director blames new state law for closure
It looks like KCRH is still in operation. Barely.

I just noticed. KNS disabled comments on the article I just linked. The pro-abortion side gets to have their say and then some and not be challenged on it. Comments generally get disabled at any article remotely related to violent crimes Illegal Aliens do as well.
