The Obama campaign is asking supporters to sign a letter to Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney release “just five years of tax returns.”
In an email to the BarackObama.com list, campaign manager Jim Messina noted the letter he sent Friday morning to Romney’s campaign manager, vowing to get off Romney’s back about the returns if the documents were produced. The Romney camp brushed off Messina’s move.
Now Messina has converted his letter into an online petition of sorts.
“According to the one full year of returns he has released, Romney paid 13.9% in taxes on his income. Thursday, he said he went back and looked, and has never paid less than 13% over the last ten years. Now we’re asking him to put his money where his mouth is,” Messina wrote.
“It is absolutely relevant for us to ask how much a presidential candidate paid in taxes, if he sheltered his money or tried to get out of paying taxes at all, why he started — and continues to own — a corporation offshore in Bermuda, why he keeps his finances offshore in the Cayman Islands, and why he opened a Swiss bank account,” he continued.
In addition to being invited to sign the petition, supporters were reminded in a P.S. to open their wallets: “Election Day is closer than you think — make a donation to fund this campaign in the time we have left.”
They don’t reeeeeally want to go down this road, do they?
I want him charged, tried and put in Jail.
Not ever going to happen. Romney is not obligated to release returns and won’t for sure now if he has any guts at all.
This could be entertaining if it were not so critical.
Winning is not enough. I want revenge.
"Okay Romney, I'm gonna draw another line in the sand and if you cross it you're in big trouble.
"Okay Romney, I'm gonna draw another line in the sand and if you cross it you're in big trouble.
"Okay Romney, I'm gonna draw another line in the sand and if you cross it you're in big trouble."
I’ll sign now for his complete college records.
Slim Shady can’t hang in the light of day!
Sorry, but they would not have standing.
The returns will get out somehow.
Great idea. If someone will create it I will sign it and pass it on to others!
The Obama campaign is successfully controlling the debate. This is all I hear about on the news.
But the ObamaMedia will repeat and magnify it endlessly and Obama's supporters and some independents, who are pure high school, will be energized. Obama supporters are wrong and maybe even evil but they're not all stupid.
CNN was pushing this earlier this afternoon! No one but Obama, et al and leftwing aka mainstream media care! Everyone else is worried about their JOBS!
It’s like most of America really doesn’t care, and that frosts Obama’s hiney. What is this supposed to show, that Mitt got some scandalous tax breaks in a tax return that is as long as “War and Peace” but nowhere near as entertaining? There is a reason that job-creating investment risks are taxed more gently than more prosaic income.
I agree with you but I have one concern. Obama certainly knows exactly what’s in Romney’s returns. Since they’re private by law he can’t even leak what’s in them, but he knows, and believes it’s win.win. If Romney releases them, Axelrod & co bash Romney with the contents. if Romney doen’t release them, then Axelrod with the Media bash Romney for a coverup. Right now this is his only play.
As they should! Imagine if Dingy Harry can just spew lies about not paying taxes for ten years and get away with it then how would they twist ten years of tax return data?
Keep hammering at Camp Ubama and his worthless record! When the media stooges bring up the tax issue hand them an "I love Obama" button for their jacket and tell them to put it on! Keep piling on the shame to the media for their relentless shilling for Ubama.
I’m sure Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck will sign this one, too.
This is beginning to smack of despiration. I don’t know anyone who could care about Romney’s tax returns. However, everyobne I know cares about Obama’s horrible record creating jobs and managing the economy!
