Los Angeles losing the core of its TV production to other states
LA Times ^ | August 19, 2012 | LA Times

Posted on 08/19/2012 7:11:50 PM PDT by HIDEK6

The five broadcast television networks will be rolling out 23 new one-hour dramas for the upcoming season. That would normally be good business for Hollywood's hometown industry — with bookings for soundstages and plenty of work for the costumers, camera operators and caterers needed to put a show on the air.

I bet it’s going to states that offer evil tax breaks. Maybe Hollywood should set the example and pay their fair share! LOL!

My heart bleeds for them.. no wait, I am from Louisiana and live in Georgia and they seem to be getting a lot of those jobs. Amazing what Republican governors can do!

WTF? Why should Sacramento subsidize overpaid actors and union goons in Hollyweird?

Yeah, I recently ran across an article about a studio in Atlanta that just built an addition to handle more work. Pretty cool.

LMFAO.

It’s about time that it came home to bite Hollyweird too, and their little artificial reality.

With any luck, Sacramento won’t figure it out until it is too late.

A lot of movies and TV shows are also being shot in Canada. And the Hollywood libs are some of the first people complaining the loudest about American jobs being taken out of the country. Of course, as is normal for libs, it’s OK for THEM to do it.

I have a cousin in the industry and she recently moved from Los Angeles to New Orleans as all the work she is involved in is now managed and shot from there. I’m sure the costs and tax rates are better than anything California can afford to offer today.

These people in the story should just pick up and move where the work is.

That’s moving to Tampa because of the LA City condom inspectors.

I think this is the issue, more so than tax credits, although those are surely one consideration. Many of these production companies are seeking lower labor costs, and the Southern states can offer that, whereas all California can offer is ever-escalating labor costs, courtesy of the unions.

It's just one more instance where union labor has managed to price itself out of work, to the happy benefit of others who have avoided doing so.

Wow. Hollywierd helped put Kali on the destination map. With them moving out, quitely in the middle of the night, they are ringing the death knell to Kali.

And before Hollywood put California on the movie map, the hotbed of the blooming film industry was . . . wait for it . . . New Jersey! Hollywood cannot die quickly enough.

Goodness, unless they are conservatives and support the constitutional Republic, keep ‘em out of Texas and Florida! They need to move to Masshole or Vermont.

City Council OKs deal to buy Eastland Mall, hoping for TV and movie studios

The Charlotte City Council voted unanimously Monday night to buy the hulking remains of Eastland Mall, spending $13.2 million with hopes of turning 81 acres into movie and television studios and revitalizing the east side.

Right to work State? Yes

Sounds like EUE/Screen Gems. They also have a large facility in Wilmingon, NC.
