Last week my opponent put out a tv ad depicting me beating women. That ad is disgraceful and despicable. As a husband and father of two daughters, I found Congressman Todd Akin’s comments about rape to be in the same vein. These comments are simply unacceptable. There is no place in politics for these type of comments and attitudes toward women.
You are spewing absolute bovine excrement. He said NO such thing. You are totally interpreting his statement your own way. There is nothing in his words that implies what you're saying and any sensible person who isn't out to destroy him or his pro-life positions politically should know that.
There is an article out there from a doctor saying the trauma of a violent rape would make it harder for a woman's hormones to allow a pregnancy to happen. Dispute it if you want, but that is what he was talking about, not about people "lying" about being raped. That is total made-up nonsense with no plausible connection to anything Akin said at all.
Declared bed wetters: Sen. Johnson, Allen West, Mark Levin, Ann Coulter, numerous freepers... not really bad company to be in.
Assault Rape Pregnancies Are Rare
In cases of rape, the rate of pregnancy is actually very rare. This is due to several factors which may affect conception. The victim is in immense emotional shock and her body in turn is affected. Statistics show that the rate of miscarriage is higher in these circumstances. A major factor contributing to the rare occurrence of conception in cases of rape is psychological trauma. Stress has been known to alter bodily functions, the menstrual cycle included. And in order for a woman to conceive a complex blend of hormones must be formed. The production of these certain hormones is easily affected by emotions, in which of course the rape itself factors in greatly. Hence, the chances of actual conception—ovulation, fertilization, implantation—for the rape victim are considerably lowered.
Inarticulate? No, he just let us know that he has fuzz for brains. I wouldn’t want him for a senator.
Men do have a tendency to stick up for other men and blame the victim. I would never vote for such a man. There is no excuse, men, for taking advantage of any woman, drunk or not. No excuse!
And those men here who have articulated on women’s anatomy during or after rape are just as silly. They are showing their ignorance
I thought all along it made sense to run a conservative woman against Claire McCaskill. I was hoping it would be Sarah Steelman. But it wasn’t my call, I vote in PA.
Part of it is RINOs who will take any opportunity to throw Christian conservatives under the bus. This was why Christine O'Donnell was treated like she was from the very second she won the primary.
Another part is many more people than one would expect having difficulty actually hearing, understanding and interpreting language correctly. It's one reason Obama won the election. People saw meanings in his words that weren't really there. I'm still trying to figure out why everyone thought Romney introduced Paul Ryan as the next "president" when he clearly said "vice president" the first time, making that not a gaffe at all.
This was no gaffe. Putting an e on potato is a gaffe. A comment from which the logical conclusion is that if a woman is a pregnant, then it wasn’t legitimate rape, is political suicide.He misspoke, and he apologized. Do you believe women should have the choice to abort their child if they've been raped? (ANY type of rape.)
Do you really think that is what he believes? Did you hear his apology?
"What I said was ill-conceived, and it was wrong," Akin said on former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee's radio show Monday. "I really just want to apologize to those that I've hurt."
"The controversy started after Akin, a six-term Missouri conservative now running against Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskill, was asked in a local interview on Sunday whether he would support abortions for women who have been raped.
"It seems to me first of all, from what I understand from doctors, that's really rare," Akin said in the interview. "If it's a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down," Akin said of a rape victim's chances of becoming pregnant.
Some liberals tried to tie other Republicans to Akin's comments, noting that Romney's running mate, Rep. Paul Ryan, co-sponsored an abortion-related bill with Akin that would have limited federal funding for abortions to victims of forcible rape," rather than just rape. The FBI's definition of rape is known as "forcible rape," and it is used to distinguish between statutory rape and other kinds of rape.
Huckabee asked Akin whether he was talking about "forcible rape" when he used the term "legitimate rape."
"I was talking about forcible rape, and it was absolutely the wrong word," Akin said.
Akin said he understands that women can become pregnant from rape. "I didn't mean to imply that wasn't the case," he said. "That does happen."
No matter how you slice it, this is kooky stuff and not something conservatives need to be defending for the next 11 weeks when they should be focused on building on their 2010 victories and taking this nation back. Akins can spout his nonsense on Art Bell while we put a responsible adult in charge of winning the Missouri senate seat.
Do you really believe that the Dems will not go after any Rep who believes that abortion is wrong even in the case of rape and incest? Paul Ryan will be the next target as indicated above. Akin should have said "forcible" rape, not legitimate rape. Regardless, he made a verbal gaffe,
What I don't understand is why West would drag Akin into charges against him. Akin is a fellow Rep colleague in the House. Why diss him? Is it necessary to kick him when he is down? Just say nothing.

Now if you want to defend that, be my guest. But you will have about as much success as Obama did when he tried to walk back his "You didn't build that" comment.
Like I said, this is wacky Art Bell stuff and we don't need this distraction in what is the most important election season of our lives. Even if Akin merely chose his words poorly, it reinforces my contention that he should drop out and let somebody run in his place who can choose his or words more carefully. If we are going to take back the senate, we need some ready for prime time players here.
Neither Akin nor anyone defending him here said there was. He simply used one word in a confusing way, the kind of vague word that anyone can easily make a misstatement with. The idea that he was making excuses for men who rape women is so utterly and totally ludicrous that it is beyond laughable. I would have been surprised if a radical Code Pink feminist came out with such an accusation, let alone someone on a conservative site. That kind of goofy accusation just makes me want to defend Akin more. This is an absolute hysterical, irrational witchhunt going on that he doesn't deserve in the slightest.
Thanks, kabar, you nailed it. That is precisely how I explained Akin’s comments to the naysayers here long before he came out with his clarification. It should be obvious to anyone what he meant given the context of his remarks. Obama’s “you didn’t build that” was not a gaffe, it was the entire context of his speech and of course of his anti-business policies. Dan Quayle misspelling “potato” is actually worse than this because it implies low education or actual stupidity. Absolutely every politician will use the wrong words at some point, and every human being can relate to that. Just like Obama with 57 states. No one believed Obama really thought there were 57 states. They knew it was a verbal slip-up. But they believed Dan Quayle really didn’t know how to spell “potato” and that was truly damaging.
You need not worry, Todd Akin will not be a senator. His career in elected office is over.

We aren't playing a game of friendly table-tennis here. This election is for all the marbles. We lose and our country is likely finished. We must have the senate as well as the presidency in order to overturn Obamacare and get some decent Supreme Court justices appointed. Akin's gaffe may be a blessing in disguise because it occurred when we still had 48 hours to find another candidate. Otherwise we'd be stuck with him.
So I don't really care if Akin is a nice guy or not. If we don't replace him by tomorrow afternoon, he's going to be a liability that may cause us to fall short of our goals this November.
Come on. The issue is far deeper than that. It’s clear that he thinks a woman can just “will” herself not to get pregnant, and therefore rape must not be “that” bad. The whole mindset behind this guy is just stupifying. Don’t know how he got the election, but this is up there with “witchcraft” O’Donnell.

If he's in heaven (and I hope he is) he would no longer stand by that stance, because he would be sharing space with millions upon millions of aborted unborn, many conceived by rape. I'm starting to see that most of those upset with Akin share your viewpoint, when the pro-lifers across the full board (for unborn life) see things differently, and thus, understand Akin's words better.

Yes. I found the clip on my DVR on Fox and watched it about 20 times this weekend. He said "the next vice president of the United States." The microphone audio dropped a little on the "v" so you couldn't quite hear the "v" but "ice" was clearly audible. He could have been saying the next "nice" president or "Rice" president, but, Condi wasn't there and...context.
