Rep. Steve King: I’ve never ‘heard of’ statutory rape victims becoming pregnant
Yahoo News ^ | 8-21-2012

Rep Steve King (R-Iowa) jumped into the "legitimate rape" fray Tuesday by telling a local reporter that he doesn't personally know of any victims of statutory rape or incest who became pregnant from the attacks.

The reporter asked King about a bill he put forward last year that would have barred federal Medicaid funds from going towards abortions except when the life of the mother is in danger or in the case of "forcible rape." (The current law just makes an exception for "rape," without the forcible part.) The new terminology would most likely prevent people who become pregnant from incest or statutory rape--when an adult has sex with someone under the age of consent--from accessing Medicaid-funded abortions. King told the reporter he didn't know of anyone who had become pregnant under those circumstances.

"Well I just haven't heard of that being a circumstance that's been brought to me in any personal way, and I'd be open to discussion about that subject matter," he said. (Talking Points Memo points to a 1996 Guttmacher Institute study that found that half of all pregnancies among minors were fathered by adult men.)

By your logic, unless you are licensed in an area, you should not comment at all. Ever. Even in your gay state.

No, that’s not true at all. Every time some dumb male GOP pol (or Rush) says something stupid like this, I get inundated with hysterical, chain emails from normally politically apathetic liberal women.

This stuff cuts through more substantial news like a razor and gets right to those who are most turned off by it.

UNlike Akin, King didn’t say what the reporter claims he said.

He said that nobody had brought that particular issue to him to discuss, and he would be happy to discuss it.

BTW, I don’t personally know any girl who was pregnant by statutory rape. That doesn’t mean I don’t think it happens. It means I don’t know them personally.

But That isn’t what King said either.

King is going to help get Akin elected to the Senate. This is a BRILLIANT move by patriotic Rep King. God Bless you Rep. Steve King and Rep Todd Akin....Thank God for you both in the political World. Wish more were like you.

How is this brilliant? He is making the Republican Party as a whole look like a bunch of sexist idiots. Of course there have been women who have gotten pregnant from rape. Oprah Winfrey had on her show some women who had chosen to keep and raise the babies as their own. (They were white women with black babies).

Anyone who claims that you can't get pregnant from 'real' or 'legimate' rape is referring to the old FALSE wives tale that women can only get pregnant if they have an orgasm. And orgasm means no 'real' rape. Please, PLEASE stop the Republican politicians from spouting off on this.

“And the Pulitzer Prize for creative reinterpretation of an extracted quote goes to Yahoo News.”

Indeed, and we proceed to crucify our own. Good thing they didn’t ask him about his exercise routine. If he said he runs up hill every morning they’d write “Rep. Gets High Every Morning!” Sadly, it would seem, not many would check if it was taken out of context and twisted, while the left laughs at how they got us to throw one of ours under the bus.

>Perhaps there IS a biological mechanism which deters raped women from getting pregnant!

Perhaps there IS an influx of DUmmys from the DUmpster waking up here and doing all they can to elect their democrat party!

Yes, the waking sleepers are fragging the blind as we speak.

I guess they get tired of DUmpster diving and go for the gold here.

King told the reporter he didn't know of anyone who had become pregnant under those circumstances.

Did he really tell the reporter that??? Here are his cited words:

"Well I just haven't heard of that being a circumstance that's been brought to me in any personal way, and I'd be open to discussion about that subject matter," he said.

Did you read what King actually said? Or are you simply poised to accompany the MSM as they seek to destroy Republicans?

We’ll see.

I guess it doesn’t do much good to speculate on it until we see some real numbers.

No I am posting what the liberals are running with on fire today. Oh and that Republicans need to STFU on this subject around the media...we CAN NOT AFFORD any soundbites at all or any attention on anything else other than the economy, jobs, Biden’s words, and Obama’s Marxist actions.

We just lost MO. We don’t need to start having Sandra Fluke in our faces every day telling us the GOP is the party of RAPE with these stupid soundbytes.

What Rep. King really said: Well I just haven't heard of that being a circumstance that's been brought to me in any personal way, and I'd be open to discussion about that subject matter.
