Police: Suspicious items found on rooftop prior to RNC

Posted: Aug 21, 2012 12:03 PM CDT Updated: Aug 21, 2012 1:03 PM CDT

Chief Castor takes questions about Friday's find. TAMPA (FOX 13) - Tampa police say they've confiscated suspicious items from a rooftop in Tampa in the buildup to the Republican National Convention.

The items included bricks and pipes, which were found along with anarchist-style graffiti Friday evening atop a business at 1000 North Florida Ave., which is at the corner of Florida Avenue and Tyler Street.

"We are appreciative that the business owner called us," TPD Chief Jane Castor said this afternoon.

"Finding those items for us was not a surprise," she added.  "We are just pleased to see the communications process worked the way it did."

Stay with FOX 13 for more updates.

Similar reason why it’s foolish for Republicans to have bumper stickers on their cars. Vandalism. Funny how it never goes the other way. Demwits can put all kinds of stupid drivel on their bumpers but Republicans won’t vandalize. Maybe it’s because we feel so sorry for their stupidity.

Biden’s brain

Too small to cause any real damage.

No but this stuff flying off the roof of a building could kill someone. Wonder if they planned on making pipe bombs with the PVC?

Literally...heads up!

I would humbly suggest we keep our powder dry. Let them show the country how vile they are. Of course be careful and ready to respond should your life be put in danger.

I have always put signs in yard but probably will not this year. Not with Holder’s people threatening everyone. It is not worth it but NOTHING will keep me from the polls in nov.....NOTHING!!!

I talked to an FBI agent who was involved with the Superbowl prep here in Indy this February.

The level (and cost) of the effort is absolutely impressive.
I’m sure political conventions get the same type of coverage.

As my Dad used to snark, “nothing’s too good for the taxpayers”

Actually, it goes a lot farther than that... I don't remember a single "hate crime" against a leftist that wasn't actually faked by that very leftist to garner sympathy and "prove" they're oppressed.

You wouldn’t believe the security here. Behavior analysis software within 2 miles etc. Closing of ports and roads. Boarding up windows on city windows. Crazy stuff here..

I know this is not a laughing matter, but it did make chuckle. The idiots who stashed the “suspicious” items must not have thought it through all the way.

It’s the Republican National Convention. So it might as well be a meeting of the National Rifle Association. Bricks and pipes against 4500 gun-toting bitter-clingers.

Yeah. Right.

Militant Democarts were convicted in 2008 of plotting to firebomb the RNC convention and to kidnap delegates. The story was never reported nationally.

Additionally, a turncoat in the GOP gave a Code Pink figure a ringside seat at the GOP convention where she then interrupted McCain’s acceptance speech. Expect more of the same crap this election cycle with scant attention from the partisan press.

Good. Sounds like they are going to need it. Is the mayor in Tampa dem or republican? That could make a big difference.

And isn't that a shame.

I'm concerned even here in solid red South Carolina. At least for this election. I pray better days are coming.

In the mean time, I'm with you. Better to be anonymous than to get my truck torn up by some knuckle dragging left-tard.

I had a McCain sticker on my bumper in 2008. Before it got torn off I had a neighbor stand at her door and yell: Obama, Obama, Obama in my direction. No stickers this time around. I don’t think they persuade anyone to vote one way or another anyway.

I remember the bomb plot. One of the perps was from Austin I think.
